I will be running my first ever 10K race this weekend. Actually, it is my first ever "proper" race other than the two Race For Life ones I did earlier this year. I can't quite believe that I am doing it at all, let alone actually looking forward to it!
Telford 10K: I will be running my first ever 10K... - Couch to 5K
Telford 10K
Woo hop hope you enjoy it. I ran my first 10k and proper race last month. I enjoyed mine and felt such an achievement to finish. Enjoy your success
Well done you! I'm sure you'll do well, and just remember to enjoy it to its fullest
Wtg blooming hope you enjoy every minute, I'm about to go onto week 7 and have just registered for the hull 10k in June eeeekkkk, at least it will motivate me
Great stuff! I will be doing a 10 k race on Sunday too. Who'da thought it ey. On the couch one minute and the next charging round the streets like whirlwinds. Well, slow ones mebbe but who cares, we're running! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeha
Savour every moment and get someone to take photos
Have fun!
I've done three 10k events recently and thoroughly enjoyed them. I think the key to it is to respect the distance. Since you've taken part in races before, you'll probably know that it's all too easy to go off very quickly. I can't help myself being drawn along by everyone around me and my first kilometre is usually run as if I'm trying to set a PB!
Now you can get away with that on a 5k, but I would suggest that unless you're a strong 10k runner (and I'm not.... I can do it, but it remains a challenge) it wouldn't be a bad idea to start at the back and take the first couple of kilometres nice and easy. The folks at the front are going to finish in around 35 minutes and most will finish in about 50 to 70 minutes in my experience. If the race is 'chip timed' then your personal clock doesn't start until you cross the start line anyway. Just last week I passed two young lads near the finish after they started at the front and went off too fast. Youth!
Ive found 10k to be a very satisfying distance and allows you to take in the sights and sounds of the day much more. Take it easy and you'll be fine. have a great day!
Loads of luck and just enjoy it! First of many
Thanks everyone. The 5K Race for Life was a bit of a bun fight, and you couldn't go fast at the start unless you were climbing over the other entrants! It was a lot of fun and a atmosphere, but a lot of people were just ambling along, chatting and stopping, with buggies etc.
I expect this will be different. I do have my first ever timing chip, and a number
I've done 10K several times now in training, so know I can do it. I'm hoping to break my current PB and just enjoy the day. It's just great to be able to enjoy running at all after so many years of thinking all runners I saw while out walking my dog (another terrier!) on cold wet days were completely bonkers and never, ever considering I'd actually be joining their ranks.
