Doing a playlist for tomorrow and wondered if you'd tell me your favourite ever track to run to. I've got a few but have gone a bit blank.

Would be ever so grateful.

Thank you :)

Dog days are over, good shout, must add to my playlist...

I love to listen to Praise You by Fatboy slim after I'm finished and starting the five minute cool down walk. It makes me remember to be proud of where I am from where I started a few weeks ago. (Cheesy but true :-P)

Love that idea. All my Facebook friends are putting bloody Chariots of Fire!!! No thanks. Fat boy Slim is great :)

Top filim that. Can't imagine being able to run and point my nose up at the sky at same time. It would be messy.

:) Great film but I'd feel a bit of a loon listening to the track whilst running....I'd have to do kind of slo mo :)

Ooh and 'Sweet Disposition'by Temper Trap, got me to 5k that first time:)

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply toMarlyParly

HELL YES ! Love this one too ! :-) xxx

Ooh goodness, where to start?! Totally agree with Dog Days and Sweet Disposition though.

I quite like Black Eyed Peas "Boom Boom Pow" (harder, faster, better, stronger and all that), The Progidy "Breathe", Young MC "Bust A Move", "New Shoes" Paolo Nutini and "See You" Depeche Mode.

Bit of everything (including a couple of the podcast tracks that I Shazam'd and downloaded) in my very eclectic playlist!

"Got a maniac out in fron' o' me!" One Republic's When the Love Runs Out.

"Got an angel on my shoulder, and Mestopholes"

A great running track, Miss W... one that was recommended here in the summer. I downloaded it on C25K recommendation and still play it today.

I always find that 'Ways and Means' by Snow Patrol keeps me going.

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate

Wow thank you so much. I sense two playlists here. Might be enough for a 10km one day in about 5 years :))

I've also added two of my faves. Blue Monday because we run in Macclesfield, where they came from. And also Prince Let's Go Crazy...just because.

The first playlist is 55 mins so if I hear all of it I will be going extremely slowly but you never know :)

Vixchile profile image

Summer by Calvin Harris and chasing the sun by......I forget love these two at the moment because it keeps me going but after tonight I am changing and going for an 80mix

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate

Vixchile I have the Ministry Of Sound 80's mix. The recent one. It's great xx

Hepsychan profile image

Personally, one of my favorite is Sail by Awolnation. It's got a really good bass line to it that you can pace yourself with and helps drive you on.

Otherwise, I'm a big fan of Queen but a bit of Meatloaf is mixed in as well

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate in reply toHepsychan

Thank you hepsychan. Meatloaf makes me smile. The chef at my first waitressing job at 14 played Bat Out Of Hell all day long. I could sing all the words if I could speak whilst running!! :)

jamkan profile image

Ooh so many choices! My current favourites are Daft Punk with Get Lucky, Emily Sande Heaven, Kadabian Fire and Kate Bush Running up that Hill. All fab!

Reward by The Teardrop Explodes and The Cutter by Echo and The Bunnymen.

(Guess who grew up in Liverpool in the 70s / 80s!!)

Great energy levels in those those two

I have Reward! Great minds and all that. I am from Manchester originally. Hacienda girl though at clubbing age :) thanks so much. Love your name!

Bless my cotton socks I'm in the mood! Good job, cos I'm out running in a mo. 10k and it's raining and blowing hard. Sigh

Speaking of One Republic! Guess who's on next week's Strictly!!!! Woohoo

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate in reply tomisswobble

Go you Miss W. Enjoy your run. We go at 2pm for our 5km. The weather is the worst it could ever be but never mind! Will update later. Have fun! Isn't Strictly great :)

misswobble profile image
misswobbleGraduate

I'm in Derbyshire same as you as the weather is a bit hairy at the minute. Windy! Aaaagh

Running into the wind, yuk

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate

We are Cheshire/Derbyshire border but I walk all the time in Derbyshire Peaks with the hounds. Running today in Macclesfield. Good luck. It's absolutely hammering down here but apparently getting much colder and the hail, sleet and snow are on their way :) xx

I don't run to music, but if I did it would be [showing my age here] Genesis and Supper's Ready. It's about 23 minutes long and you can really get into the story.

Some say that songs with a certain beat help, but I suspect I would want to be taken away from my surroundings by the music.

My other choice would be Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 5....sublime.

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate in reply to

Sally I thing running to some classical would be fabulous. Better get a classical playlist started too!! :) I don't even like particularly fast music but I need something to stop me listening to myself huffing and puffing :)

in reply toBarbarajs

The good thing about classical music is that you don't need a playlist, just the one symphony or concerto.

Javea99 profile image

This is my running selection from July taken mainly from songs from Jog.Fm based on a beat of c 155 to 160 pm.

Don't stop me now - Queen (A good one to start with)

Holiday - Vampire Weekend

I Fought the Law - The Clash (always makes me run faster this one)

I predict a Riot - Kaiser Chiefs

LA Woman - The Doors

She's Always a Woman - Billy Joel

Chasing Pavements - Adele (A good one for motivation)

Complicated - Avril Lavigne

Broken Hearts Parade - Good Charlotte

Ho Hey - The Lumineers (Usually at the end of a 30 minute run / cooling down)

Holland Road - Mumford and Sons

Everybody Talks - Neon Trees (Another feel good song)

Eat that up, it's good for you - Two Door Cinema Club

I went for my longest run this morning - 55 minutes, 7.5 km on a slower, longer run listening and singing along to some of these songs.

There are some good suggestions in the posts above that I must add to a new updated listing.

Great post - I will have a look through for some inspiration to add to my playlists

Here are a few additional suggestions:

I can't help this feeling I've got - Razorlight. Also, American Idiot by Green day, One Way or Another by Blondie and Alternative Ulster by Stiff Little Fingers.

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate in reply tosprynn

I hope it's helpful to everybody. There were a couple today on my list that were absolutely inspiring to run to and I'm very grateful :)

Can't wait to run again and listen to the rest of my list!!

On a related but slightly tangential matter.......

If I hear Slade's "Merry Xmas Everybody" again this year - possibly this lifetime - I'm going to stomp on Noddy Holder's Christmas presents.

Just saying.

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply toDiabolicalLiberty

Mornin ' :-)

I read somewhere that Slade make over £500,00 a year in royalties on that song. Not a bad days work hey ? :-D xxx

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate in reply topoppypug

That'd explain why the Noddster can afford to live in Prestbury....very posh footballer styleee village next to the one I live in (which isn't posh at all) By all accounts he is a very lovely amenable man so that's ok! :)

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply toBarbarajs

Yes , Ive heard he is a nice guy. Seems to come across like that whenever Ive seen him on the telly.

I bet he gets a bit fed up though of people shouting " Its Chriiiistmaaaaaas " to him all the time ha ha :-D xxx

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate in reply topoppypug

Ha ha yes I bet does. David Dickinson lives here and he gets cheap as chips all the time. He is a tosser though ;) xx

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply toBarbarajs

Ha ha , yep he does come across as a bit of a one does David :-) xxx

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate in reply topoppypug

He is very very arrogant but has the most lovely whacky wife who goes up on pavements in her car when she can't get through a gap bless her. She is very nice :)

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply toBarbarajs

D'ya know, I always got that vibe from him that he would be . Poor Mrs Dickinson , shes probably been driven to distraction after all these years being married to him ha ha

Do you see Wayne and Colleen at all ? :-) xxx

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate in reply topoppypug

No Poppy,I've never seen those two. They live in Prestbury I think. I used to work in a posh farm shop just outside Wilmslow. Now that was a haven for footballers...and they were all really nice. Dickinson isn't liked here at all I'm afraid.

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply toBarbarajs

Ah , they must be next door neighbours with Noddy :-) Where are you if you don't mind me asking ? :-) xxx

Barbarajs profile image

poppypug profile image

Im in Hale Barns, as mentioned loads of times by Sally Webster in Corrie the other night ha ha :-)

Oh yah it is very , very posh , well a lot if it is , the part Im in isn't :-) xxx

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate in reply topoppypug

Oh my God...you are super posh then Poppy!! I know Hale Barns quite well. I worked at The Cheshire Smokehouse near Wilmsow for many years. Our Sal actually lives in Hale doesn't she? Or is it Altrincham? Nice to meet you. Maybe we shall run together one day :)

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply toBarbarajs

Yah, absolutely ! ( Im not really ) Yes , I have seen Sal in our local Sainsburys. She either lives in Hale or Altrincham, Im not sure. She is soo tiny in real life and very pretty.

I have seen Kevin Webster lots of times, he lives around here too.

Yes, it would be great if we could have a run together one day :-) xxx

Barbarajs profile image
BarbarajsGraduate in reply topoppypug

For sure. We aren't too far apart are we. Maybe Tatton would be a good place. One day eh!

I used to house/dogsit in Mobberley and used to see Kevin on dog walks. He had a beautiful black lab just like mine and I think he used to live near the new runway some where up to his divorce anyway. Nice guy and no airs and graces :) x

poppypug profile image
poppypugGraduate in reply toBarbarajs

Yes, definitely, theres bound to be some runs/races at Tatton next year, or we could just have a little jog around, fab :-)

I first saw him with I think it was a black lab and a cocker /springer spaniel. I think he was still married then, hes living in Hale Village now. xxx

I had no idea who David Dickinson was; I had to google him.

Is it natural for anyone to be that orange? He's a one man cure for scurvy.

Ha ha , hes practically mahogany , I think :-) xxx

Barbarajs profile image

I agree :)

The only Christmas tune I can cope with is The Pogues. Having worked in catering and then retail for many years the very sound of Christmas songs is enough to make me go and hide in a cupboard :)

It's got to be "Shopping" by the Barenaked Ladies. It's catchy, got a great tempo for running and is entirely happy. Whenever it comes on my playlist, I pick up the pace appreciably.

Barbarajs profile image

It's funny isn't it what music does to us....energises us or relaxes us. I was almost dancing to Prince Let's go Crazy during my 5km on Sunday and I am in love with Dog Days Are Over, which I didn't know really before this post!!
