An unexpected 10km this morning....

Well went i set off for my room it wasn't the temperature was ok, the first 2km look a bit of settling in by the time 3km came it was time for my upwards climb. There were a few stops but i managed to get to toilets (no emergency today) and then it was time to start to break new ground. It wasn't fast or pretty but i managed to make it to the little park my aim for today at the top of the climb. I had a little stop and i thought lets see some more of this race route, turned the corner and faced a fairly steep (well for me) downward road but i thought what i will do is run 0.5km down hill then run back up, as i was running back up i faced a runner and he gave me a huge smile and a thumbs up. I feel a bit guilty and wanted to say i have only done 0.5km up hill. Next week my aim is to repeat but go a little further downhill and run back up. I might have to leave the other half in the little park as there is no way he will freewheel downhill and then cycle back up, especially after tacking one incline.

By doing this i will know that i am ready (as i possibly can be) for my race. I know i won't be breaking any records but i really pleased to be doing this - i will try to take a picture of what i am facing this weekend and post it.

Anyway by the time i ran back to the toilets i was at 8.6km so i thought well i might carry on and by the time i got out the park totally and ran down to the main road i was 9.7km so i thought might as well just run 10km now. I wanted to push on for 11km but i thought i want to do jillian tomorrow and the colour run on saturday so best not over do it.

I am so pleased, i know it was a lot better today because it was so much cooler.

Happy running everyone!

In places it is. I Find it very tricky. It's will be great to do it but yes it will be hard work especially if has been a hot day. I hadn't noticed the added the route to the website when I joined it only had a basic map but where I live I knew what was involved.

By the sounds of it you have your work cut out too! You will be ok, I use to be scared of hills but you need to tackle them slowly, but by bit, step by step. Also take an energy drink I find it helps. I only have a little bit but will help especially if the route is uphill for a long time.

Well done you, and congratulations with controlling your urge to spend all the energy on one day. That's a temptation I know only too well, and normally when I give in to it, the penalty comes pdq. So you did the right thing, and 10km on something like that must be really tough!

I know I went shopping instead afterwards, I think I won't be doing jillian tomorrow now. It's hard not to continue when a run feels good.
