Anybody tried c25k using a cross trainer. Not so keen on running in the dark?
Cross trainer?: Anybody tried c25k using a cross... - Couch to 5K
Cross trainer?
I don't think it could replace running - assuming your goal is to run - the movement is quite different and you actually do not lift your feet off the thing, and work different muscles. Obviously is better than sitting on the couch.
Personally I think that even if could do 30 minutes on a cross trainer, I would not expect to get out on the trail or road and manage a 30 minute run ... Could you alternate it with proper running?
Or at least put in a daytime run on days off?
cross trainers are powerful machines which imitate the leg movements. I'd see this as perfectly adequate. As it has indicator for speed and distance, you can calibrate the resistance and adapt this to your goal.
Hi there,
I'm only on week 3 but have been only using the cross trainer. Even though it doesn't improve your bone density like running it's much better on your joints and back. I've had an accident which has left my back a bit fragile, so I thought I would do it on the cross trainer and when I am fitter and muscles are strengthened I would try proper running.
Whatever you decide to do though is so much better than nothing at all. And the cross trainer still provides a pretty good work out! Good luck

Daffodilly, I use the static bike at the gym. I suffer from bronchiectasis which limits my ability to breathe freely. I finf that the static bike is fine and enables me to stretch my limits. I find teh cross trainer too hard on my breathing. But if you are fit, you will enjoy the cross trainer. it has quite an impact on the heart. Of course, the gym has a span of equipments which you can use inconjunction with the C2 5k. The treadmill, bike, cross trainer or even the rowing machine have all computer indicator of heart, speed, and distance run, and so would be wel adapted for your purpose. My preference for my condition is the bike. Have a go at the gym, it is indeed pleasant to be in the light and warmth. Whatever you do, keep up with the exercise. Best of luck.
