WEEK 5 RUN 2 Help.

Did anyone else experience big problems getting through Week 5 Run 2? I'm on my 3rd attempt tonight.

My lungs feel like they are going to collapse - I can do the first 8 mins quite easily but at a really slow pace then the 5 minutes recovery walk Seems to be enough but as soon as I start the second 8 minute lap I know it's going to end badly - i can just get to about 6 minutes before really really having to stop.

It's so disconcerting as the next one is straight in to 20 minutes. Does anyone have any similar experiences or tips?

Many thanks

Just go slowly! It's when peeps are going too fast that they struggle. Take it right down and then some. Try that!

It might be partly a mental thing as well. It always seems like a bigger hurdle to me following a bad run. You know in your head you can run 8 minutes once, you just have to remind yourself there is no reason you can't do it twice. Go really slowly. Try a new route. New scenery can distract you from the negative voices in your head. And if you pick an easy route it can build your confidence again. You could also try some different tunes to see if that keeps you going. Or once you hit that tough bit repeat a mantra - someone on here mentioned using one and it really does help during the tough parts (think of the little engine that could repeating 'I think I can' again and again)

You can do it. We're cheering for you.

Definitely go slower. Also have a good hard think - are you stopping because you are REALLY worn out, in which case just keep plugging away until your fitness catches up, or are you stopping because of those naughty gremlins. If it's the latter, tell them to bugger off and see if you can do those last 2 mins!

I did my W5R2 last night and I'm sorry to say that it wasn't too bad for me.... but I'm sure I could have walked quicker! I'm no athlete and I've only been following the C25K program.

As others have said... really slow it down... I have found that when you start any run you are of course feeling fresh and can breath normally so there is that temptation to zoom off using up valuable energy that you need to complete the run. I do feel a bit a of fake running so slow, but that's the advice that everyone offers :-)

Yes, I'm a bit nervous about the 20min run that I have tomorrow and I know it will be a challenge... but I know the first part of it will be just after the warm up walk so I should have something in the tank!

Like Andy have just done Run2 and didnt find it to bad either , I certainly slowed down this week and it works :D Slow and steady is the mantra here :D good luck with completeing Run2 :D
