Sulking horrendously but getting there...

So this time last month I ran 5 ks with hills and then felt a little tight in my right calf. Ran two days later, tighter calf, ran the next day and then have spent the last month either limping about, getting frustrated and trying to run (cue more limping) or sulking. Took over a week off and then tried what they term a medicinal run (W1 R1 in my case) trying to get back up to my 30 minutes.

Calf strains are the worse. You feel fine and then do something silly and you are back to square one it seems. Anyone else had one of these? The strain itself now feels fine but the calf is tight. Stretching seems to be my current hobby. Going to try W2 R1 tomorrow and work my way up the weeks to W9 over the next couple of weeks. Fingers crossed!!!

How about just doing pool running for a few weeks and see how it is then, rather than rushing it and risk injuring yourself again or making it worse? I do hope it all goes ok and you are back to your peak again soon xxx

Ouch, that sounds very, very painful! And the frustrations of having to go through the period of training yourself back up to where you were. No wonder that you've been sulking :-)

Ouch! Have you thought about having a sport massage? They are painful but very effective at loosening those tight muscles.

The other thing you can do is get hold of a foam roller. You can get them on Amazon or in any sports shop. The first time I used one on my tight calves I screamed in pain! But it works as I have no pain at all and my calves are much more flexible. In the short term you can also use a rolling pin for the calves. Good luck.
