Wk 7 Run 3. Slow is the answer. Paced myself to half a minute slower per kilometre and ran extra time to 28 mins 31 secs whilst having a converstion with myself (a sure sign of insanity but then I thought running for longer than a minute was insane once). No Laura* - no map my run - no PB's - garmins or go faster running tights. Just the countdown timer on my watch and some tunes (and well a new pair of shoes obviously). Phew - feel like I've been on week 7 for a fortnight - Shall now look forward to posting with the sophisticated grown-ups on Week 8.

*Laura has been great and we're not splitting up or anything, it's just that her encouragement has started to feel a little like nagging during wk 7, plus she's started squeezing the toothpaste tube from the middle. Good luck to all other week 7ers - it may not always be plain sailing but you will get there as I eventually did :) Onwards and upwards - wow I've already rehearsed 8.1. - I'm sure one also needs new running kit for week 8!!!

Fanatstic! Slow and steady is our mantra! It's very easy to think that unless you're steaming along you're not doing it right. Truth is, if you push too hard, you're more likely to have to stop and you're more likely to injure yourself. Build stamina, build confidence and the speed/distance will come.

Good luck with W8!

Thank you Dottie - less is more. For me stopping is to be avoided at all costs - if I stop just once I seem to then stop a thousand times.

Hey Runon , you did it ,yay !

Did you say to yourself " Sorted" in a Ray Winstone kinda voice ? Oh its got to be done , y'know before you can move up to Week 8 ha ha only joking :-)

Well here you are ,going up t' big school , where all the grown ups and the sophistacats are . This is where when you've completed a run you've got to say " Yah absolutely " and drink your post run cuppa out of a china cup and saucer with your little pinkie sticking up :-)

You have done so well, I am very proud of you ,keep going :-) xxx

Ray actually got the expression from me you know :)

'Yay' indeed and having run the extra 3.30 I feel confident about joining all the dahlings and luvvies in Week 8. Of course, we've seen what happens when I get confident... - the treadmill disaster, the mapmyrun disaster etc.

Anyway my new running shoes - Bridget (left foot) and Bob (right) are working well and enjoyed their outing to the beach - they are far superior to the army boots and more in keeping with the sensibilities of the week 8 personages. Heavens I don't know what to wear for week 8 - should I get a Gahmeen? :) xx

Ooooh you run on a beach ? I am soooo envious , bit of a step up from the grey streets I run around here with the flippin' cambers that tend to knack your ankles at the earliest opportunity , but its getting my ageing carcass out there and that's the main thing :-)

Now Runon, I am not sure about the Gahmeen, I hope you don't take offence when I say that you and technology don't exactly see eye to eye do you ? Now, I am not insinuating that you are complete technophobe numpty potato head like me , but maybe it would be better if you wore it when you have graduated ?

For your Week 8 Run 1 , I think you should wear a pashmina, but make sure you don't colour clash with Bob and Bridget of course ! :-) xxx

No offence taken dear Poppy and you are right about the Gahmeen. I'm actually not that bad with techno stuff (when I grow up I want to be an astronaut) just not good at things all happening at once - I have the same problem when I'm flying a plane.

Well I run by the beach, on the promenade. I have run on the beach, which is pretty hard sand, but I keep tripping over the sunbathers, knock ice creams into people's faces and scare the donkeys.

Pashmina ummm?!

What do the donkeys on the beach have for their lunch ?

Half an hour like everyone else , boom , tish , Im here all week :-D

That sounds luvvly running on a promenade by the beach .

Im not good at all with my IPhone. I like to play tunes, just to drown out the wheezing, gargling noise my lungs make and the screams from small children as I pass them . I also like to use the Runtracker app as well at the same time. Oh the times I forgotten to press the start button is unreal . Oh give me the abacus and the stone tablets anyday, its just that theyre a bit cumbersome to carry aren't they ? :-) xxx

Personally I think we should have porters or sherpas running along with us with trolleys holding useful materials like drinks and brow-moppers and newspapers to read and masseurs to massage while we run. It would make life just that little bit easier.

Thank you EJ - Who is Julie? Laura and I may have had our differences this week but I am not the sort of guy to two-time her. :)

Well done - the rest of the programme is as good as in the bag! It's a really valuable lesson that slow is good - and one that it takes us all a while to learn for some reason. And new shoes too!

RunonGraduate in reply toUllyrunner

Thank you Ullyrunner - they are new go slower shoes. It's like each week has its little lesson to learn and for me the lesson of wk 7 is pacing or in my case the lack of it :)
