Hi and welcome to the 5th week of the Tri-ing to succeed quest.
Nearly at the end of this quest now. I am already working out my next one. I have realised that with all the training recently my running has got into really bad habits. I have been so focused on getting myself to the end of the triathlon that I have got into the habit of lots of run/walks. So I am going to go back to the basics and build up again.
The thing I tell myself is not to be too hard on myself I am still active and I still run but I would like to be a more consistent runner. It's still not a natural thing for me.
The description of what the Quests are about are below.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing from John O Groats to Lands End.
Then it all starts again for another six week Quest.

Take it easy RFC, don't stress over it. Like you say you're running so that's the main thing
I finished my personal quest, which was the 5 k race I was working towards. To fully complete that challenge I have to do a few more recovery runs. Once that's done I am going to train for a half marathon.
You did so well with your Triathlon rfc Must have taken lots of time to train for 3 different sports. Which one is your favourite? My week been good all runs as planned except seem to be getting slower. At park run sat I felt really good and like I was pushing myself but 30 secs slower than last week and at practise 10 k had good run but taking about 1 hr 25 mins so way slower than 2x my 5k times anyway trying not to worry about time . Just going to go out and enjoy 10 k race on Sat. Still surprisingly calm about it but have had few days when just want to eat everything in sight . Anyway happy running everyone.
Thanks, I am best at swimming but my favorite is still running, even though I'm not too good. Good luck for your 10km I am sure it will all come together.
Rfc ....don't beat yourself up over your running...you did so well with your triathlon, now you can take a bit of time to concentrate on just the running again...work to a little plan maybe and know that' some of the pressure is off.
I got my three runs in last week-started with a 5.5K,incorporating the Speed podcast, a 4K...Speed again including a short run and finally to celebrate my one year since graduation,I ran 12.6K when I only ever hoped to do a 10... so I'm quite a happy bunny.
I'm away to the coast on Thursday for a little break...just 3 nights, not sure if I'll run...think I'll take my stuff anyway....
I did the first run of this week this morning and hoping to get out again on Wednesday,so I'll at least have two I the bag if I end up being lazy on my short holiday
Hehe I had a full training plan written up before Sunday. I am a little addicted. Sounds like things are going well for you. What a way to end your Runnerversary.
I have had a ok week. First run went ok I ran 54 minutes ok but legs felt like lead. Second run I decided I would just keep going going as long as I could. my audio book switched on, treadmill set to 7:1 and off I went, after my 5 minute warm up. Everything going well 46 minutes going strong, another chapter listened to, and the treadmill stops! Could not believe it! Just stops, I didn't touch the emergence stop. It re-booted and nothing! My whole workout gone! So annoying!
Third run, trying again. New music on iPad, treadmill set again to 7:1 and off I went again. The first 5km went really well, easterly into my stride. I just wanted to get to hour, first time ever. 55, 56, 57, go on you can do, I kept saying. 60 minutes! Couldn't believe it! 7 km! Best ever. Then I thought you've done the hard part, it's only another 25 minutes, you can run 25 minutes. I kept going. Treadmill upto 7:2, then 7:3, 8km covered, 9km, treadmill upto 7:5 last km. only 8 more minutes! 10km 1:23:30! First time ever! Feeling great.
Not sure I will be able to do 3 in 1 week but the first one is done and I know I can do it
Managed my 3 runs last week, so I'm happy, though the first one was hard for some reason.
Run 1 was the speed podcast in the park. Did my usual 5 minute warmup walk, then into the podcast. Well within 2 minutes I had a stitch. This hasn't happened for ages, but I had to take a walk break to make it go away. Resumed jogging but really didn't feel comfortable. Decided to try the intervals anyway but take it really gently, so I ended up ignoring the rythm and alternating slow and even slower minutes.
Run 2 was late in the evening after a hot day, 2 hours after eating, so I knew I needed to take it gently but decided to use Stamina anyway. I actually really enjoyed this one - it was a lovely peaceful time to do it, though I had terrible trouble sleeping afterwards. I even managed to do negative splits, albeit at a snails pace...
Run 3 was Saturday morning and inaugurated a new family tradition. Hubby and I both left the house at 9.30 for our respective runs, with an agreement to meet at McDonalds around 10.30 for brunch (we don't run together as he is way faster than me). I did 6k in 55 minutes (told you I'm slow) looping through the park and then back along the river side to said "den of american imperialist iniquity". Our 3 kids walked to join us, and then I undid all my good work by eating an egg mcmuffin. This was an excellent start to the weekend and may well become a habit !
Oh RFC, the running is for you, not you for the running!
Still in making the most of holiday mood phase. I think I may miss most of my goals for this quest. Bike is currently behind a couple of feet of stone so even more trouble to get out. Have made it swimming twice so I am really pleased about that but it isn't all about me, I've taken my younger son and we get out when he's had enough and I have to make time to check in with him too. But managed 22 lengths in 26 minutes, so nearly, nearly. Just the one run, so I'll only get to 25k if I manage a few longer runs soon but lots of walking.
Have done the (home) yoga class and although the weight loss has been negative, I've been tracking my eating (decoupled Runkeeper and MFP to make it clearer as I don't want to eat my exercise calories)
So all in all a mixed bag but sharing my fitness with my family which is great - walks in fabulous new places, swimming, I've even vacuumed!
Thank you yes we sometimes forget who we do this for. It is important that we get something from it. I am looking forward to missing a run for a long walk with my husband, I have missed that with training. On a side note I always eat my calories back, it seems to work for me. My thyroid makes dieting difficult. I can't undereat. Enjoy your walks.
Got my 3x last week including a great 10k event running along the coast one evening as the sunset. However the way things went I ran 3 days in succession which has taken it out of me, need some early nights!
Oh look after yourself. I have only ever done three days in a row with different disciplines I don't think I could run three days in a row. Hope your bouncing back ok.
Everyone seems to be achieving fantastic things, so a big cheery well done, and an extra one for RFC for completing her triathlon. I'm away on holiday from next week, but have achieved my goal of completing my b210k and have done my timed 5k run. I'm planning to do my timed 10k this weekend.
I probably won't be able to post next week, but I would like to record for the end of the quest that I have already run 10k during this quest. I think I'm going to have a few days off next week after my timed 10k and work out a plan to help get my speed up.
Hi Rfc & congratulations on completing your triathlon & fundraising; I also really enjoyed your story blog along with some of the recipes you included hoping you have recovered and enjoyed a quality walk with your hubby x
I am running 3 times a week for a 10k @ Althorpe in mid October but am now following a training plan which is more structured. Part of what I wanted to achieve during the 6 week quest was a parkrun and I keep saying I will but have found every excuse not to up until today. With no more excuses left - my first parkrun is this Saturday .
And completed level 1 of the 30 day shred along with Poppypug - sometimes less is more so I haven't been swimming this week,
