Hope everyone's week has been ok. I like the idea on the next virtual run we all descend on Curlygurly2 with her kind invitation. So I think we will keep things realaxed for a little while and go on travels and anyone nearby who would like a visit just let me know near the end of the each virtual run.
Happy running to you all.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing London to Paris

Ok week for me. A 7km run and a 15km speed walk. I wanted to get the distance for the walk under my belt so HM training will be a lot more realaxed now I know I'm not far off the whole distance. 1 swim as well. We have flu I the house at the moment (inspite of the fact we have both had flu jabs) so I am Just keeping my fingers crossed that it bypasses me before the London Winter run. Home made tincture and good food for me
Like the slip there, good for 'Most depressing day of the year'
I am not terribly thrilled with my quest progress this week - the only positive was that I did revisit an old running haunt and despite all the flat tyre/frozen feet hooha detailed elsewhere I was jolly glad to have done that.
No swimming, only one day when I achieved 10,000 steps (see above) and weight remains static over the BMI line. That said, there was one day where I'd not been wearing my FitBit for most of the day and I think that was a day I might otherwise have clocked up 10,000. And although this isn't a quest goal I did achieve 130 minutes of moderate intensity activity over the week, so not really couch potato-y.
So... planning for more success this week... recording my food intake, which will be easier without so much random eating up from Christmas - the urgent things have all been scoffed, and setting a target for drinking water too.
I am not as busy this week which should help - I had three (perfectly pleasant) meetings in the early part of the week and that causes significant fatigue in the days following , on top of trying to get more activity into fewer days.
Good week. 5k run to work, 5.7k hilly run in the woods with some extra hill repeats (just three little ones) and 14k long run yesterday. HM training sort of back on track. Also walked to work one morning which worked out at 5.7k in 62 minutes.
After yesterday's run my legs felt fine until this morning's fitness class with all its legwork and squats
Chuffed that I managed my 3 runs last week. Tuesday I went out in daylight and did Stepping Stone. Thursday I ran early evening (while son was at music) and used the 45 minute 80s mix from RockMyRun. Enjoyed it and even included a bit of a hill.
Saturday was supposed to be long run day, but I woke up to snow and by time I motivated myself to go out I was abit short of time. So I settled on a naked 30 minutes round our local park on the grounds that soft snow on top of gravel wouldn't be too slidey. It was flipping hard work though ! Not entirely sure I enjoyed it at the time but I'm glad I did it.
Shorter distances this past week for me to give my joints a rest. Managed a couple of runs and a session at the gym. Will be looking to do another long run today or tomorrow.
I feel the week was a bit of a mixed bag. I did quite a lot of things: 3 runs of which one was Parkrun, another a 5k and the 3rd 3K of short intervals; 2 40 minutes swims - 1 in a class; 2 Aqua classes; 1 set of weights; 10 minutes on a bike during a Spinathon raising funds for Cancer Research.... and ended up with a tight hip abductor after Saturday's Parkrun. Today I feel unusually tired and in hindsight last week was probably too heavy, so I am resolutely having a few "rest days" before I start again.
Long run was supposed to be yesterday in snowy Pentland hills but cancelled cos leader has injured knee and we really need his experience in case we get lost. So went sledging instead Great fun - and exercise. Only injury was to 6 yr old grandson who decide to launch his sledge off 10 ft drop! luckily he only bit bruised and black eye. So decided to do speed work on run back from school drop off. But cycle path was like ice rink so ended up fairly slow plod along narrow grass verge.
Longest ever run on Monday. 13.1km in 1:28. 10/2 run/walk splits and stops for pics for a Facebook scavenger hunt. Could have done without the blister 2k from home though.
parkrun on Saturday - bit icy and a slight change to the course to avoid this. 111th in 28:58.
Woke up to snow yesterday so couldn't resist a cheeky 5k along the towpath 😀
Won't get anything in this week - work is starting again with a vengeance. Lots of walking and I count loading/unloading flight cases from artic trucks as cross training. (Often incredibly cross if it's late 😀)
January is the longest month. I managed my goals last week, though I did end with only two runs plus a video crosstrain (6k, 5k). Over the weekend, the temperatures plunged and it snowed, and my kids got sick, and so did I, blah blah.
Anyway, I'm jumping back on the wagon today, heading out after I hit Send for 5k or so, even though it is -3! Later in the week, I hope for another two runs and 5k walk, and some strength.
Gotta keep at it, my doctoral thesis must be submitted on the 31st and the stress (if not the work pace) is relentless.
I had a really good week and I am convinced my change of running shoes is the cause! I think I said I'd done a lovely 9+k run with Rona aka fitfor60 last Monday night, followed this with fairly speedy run with running group on Wednesday then a 10k on Saturday. I struggled for the last couple of k's but then thought I'd gone out with no breakfast so it's not surprising. Yoga once but that was because I was away. Hope everyone is either well or if injured you are improving.
Started out by accidentally running 9k on Sunday, which went really well and speedy for me. It was all on concrete though :/ However found out on a 40 min walk on monday that despite feeling fab and no shin pain on sunday, I triggered some heel pain, probably plantar fascitiis, leaving me limping everywhere.
Then I went to my advanced yoga class tues and managed to pull a muscle in my calf (luckily it was right at the end and still a good work out!)
Decided to give myself a rest, hoping a few days, but today its still sore- I have a tender spot on the back of my ankle that hurts whenever I have shoes on & walk anywhere. Looks like it will have to probably (being realistic) be 2 week off!!
Shame as I wanted to go out for the first running club run with a friend which we've been planning since december on monday! Bring on the foam roller and lots of calf exercises. Will keep up the yoga this week to try and keep my spirits up- felt I was making so much progress so a bit frustrated!!
Oh I am so chuffed! Thanks RFC! Cordes-Sur-Ciel just won't know what has hit it when all you beautiful runners descend on it! Cordes needs more runners! There is pretty much only me and they think I'm bonkers...
I'm still getting myself back to my former running self, but it's going well now. 17 KM so far this week with a long run (14 K) planned for Sunday. I've mixed things up, W2 with Laura done as intervals, a nice 10 K with Stamina on the way home, and a couple of easy runs just letting my feet take me where they will.
