I hope everyone is is doing ok and those who are still on the IC couch are making progress.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run.

A quieter sort of week for me, got a feeling that a cold was on the horizon so I took things down a bit. I have two events for sports relief on the 18th March (1.5km swim) and in the 20 March (6mile at the Olympic park). So I need to be fit and I am learning to look at the bigger picture rather than just focusing on one weeks worth of training. Saying that I was feeling a lot better by yesterday and did a lovely 10km in the cold sunshine. Wishing you all a happy healthy week.
Quite pleased with the week given that I had a few challenges of various kinds. 2 runs and took lots of opportunities for walking. The first of these saw a return to an old haunt, and a bit of a sprint at the end, both of which were satisfying, and the second I kept going to 5k, which also pleased me. My husband, the focus of this Quest, was away for work, but I got him out for quite an energetic walk yesterday. Sadly so energetic that I had a bit of a funny turn and had to lie down in the woods for a while.
I thought things were starting to shift on my weight loss front but we have a lot of family birthdays round this time which may account for no overall progress. I console myself that keeping active will be stopping things getting worse - and for all the occasions I could have made a better choice, there have been others when I did. All my husband's tests are coming back looking good so the only major thing the GP can suggest is losing weight.
I met my target.....I completed the Northumberland coastal trail half marathon on Saturday in 2:45....and survived! Will be posting about it in the next few days when I have time in front of a computer. Apparently now I need to rest for a few more days....
Very pleased with last week. Thursday was my birthday and the kids were on school holiday, AND I had a dissertation to submit, so I figured my usual Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday pattern might be compromised and did a pre-emptive Speed podcast on Monday. As expected things then got complicated and my next run was on Friday. Weather wasn't fab and I was planning to push myself on Saturday, so I decided to keep in gentle with the Stepping Stone podcast. Not my favourite of the "plus" podcasts (prefer the other two) but it got me out there. Saturday dawned and was my big run day. Headed out the door midmorning and got back much later having done 16k - a new distance record for me and a big mental milestone. I took it very gently. Had made myself a playlist with 2 episodes of Saturday Live back to back which kept me nicely entertained. Did a riverside route that is pretty flat with a few undulations for variety. Got home feeling very very pleased with myself, and having made a bit of a dent in my birthday celebration calories.
Life returns to normal this week. Am flirting with the idea of adding a 4th run (Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday) as dissertation is in which means I have more time...
I "lost" four days last week because I had a friend stay and then I had to travel a long way to get my scan and results. BUT, I managed to get to the gym twice and worked really hard. I've also kept up with exercises at home every day. So, I'm feeling good!
Roll on this week when I should be able to hit the gym more often.
Have a great week questers and a step further to recovery for those on the IC.
A good week here, managed to lose 4lbs thanks to MFP and grim determination! I know that's just the first week's loss and it will settle down now but it has given me a much needed boost
I also managed 3 runs this week - go me! Two were 5.5k and just over 7k, so I feel like I'm getting back into this running lark. I've realised that I need a race to motivate myself so am looking for my next one after my one this coming Sunday. It's only a 5k but it's one I will have to travel for so it feels like a real race!
Hope everyone on the IC is recovering steadily and everyone else is enjoying their runs. Do you feel that Spring might be approaching, here in the UK? Or have I just jinxed us?
Was up on Alport Heights and all kinds of weather in about 20 minutes. That hail hurt! Kicked myself for not sticking my running shoes on and getting a quick Pyramid 180 in. Did weight training in the morning though (aka taking 15kgs+ of felines to the vet)
Just displeased at having been jabbed! (As I was displeased that because I'd had to dash my husband to A&E and missed the original appointment, the vet insisted two of them now have to have a full initial course again and a booster just won't do)
Just completed the c25k+ speed podcast. Not what i expected at all. When i heard it was going to be interval training I thought...... well you know what i thought. ** no spoilers here***
Anyway I did it ok but felt the session was finished before I was.... I would have liked to run for longer. . Can you believe it.
Not sure if i will do it next time out may try stamina. Watch this space...
On the couch again, my back recent;y, now my achilles. Not a happy bunny, got a bit of running tourism coming up - or had :-(. I will walk/run or just walk if I can't manage anything else.
My week was a running trainwreck. I basically stopped sleeping at a certain point and managed only two of the four runs I'd planned (5k, 5k). I did get a long walk in on Saturday, probably 3 or 4k. And I submitted my thesis on Saturday afternoon (but officially today)!
I've slept like a baby for two nights so I expect tomorrow's run to be strong. I think, however, I'm going temper my ambition. I was trying to work a fourth day in, but my legs are like lead. This week I aim for three days, more walking, more sleep, more water, less junk food.
I've realised I always post right on the end of the previous quest.. so I'm a week 'behind' and may as well post this again here!
Back on the horse! After a couple of weeks on the IC (I suppose it was necessary this quest..), last week I did a gentle 20 minute run & netball & yoga, aiming to do some more this week. Bad news= my running fitness definitely deteriorated in the break, good news= my abs are definitely looking more toned with all the yoga/workouts I did instead of runs!
Did a half hour run on tuesday and my hour advanced yoga class.
Wednesday did my netball recreational session including a 8-min abs interval session at the beginning!
Thursday I went to a boxing fitness session for an hour that was really hard! I was aching the next day so missed a run on friday.
Sunday I had come home so did a nice half hour (4km) run with my dad and my dog
Had a bit of a chesty cough this week so didn't feel at my best, but know I can improve again quickly if I keep getting out there and back into my routine. Got a 6.5k night run in 2 weeks so want to improve a bit before then!
Probably going out for a gentle 20/25 min run early tomorrow
Have had a horrible cough and a bit of a cold these last few days. Woke up on Saturday morning and crowd because I didn't know whether I could do the 10k trail race in Glentress Forest near Peebles or not. Decided to have a go and drop out if I had to. The weather was gorgeous, hard frost and sunshine. It was -4 degrees when we started off but the ascents were so steep I heated up in no time. Loved every minute and hardly coughed at all during the race. Time was 1.22 which I was pretty happy with given how tough the course was and how many ascents we all had to walk up. Since then I've not run as the cough returned as soon as the race was finished! Starting to feel a bit better so maybe manage a wee jaunt tomorrow.
Nice to read how everyone is getting on...π₯for those of you on couch andππππ for those who are doing well! I was the former last week.. But this week started well. Went and watched son run Harewood House 1/2 marathon..walked miles to support him lol!! But got week 4 run 1 done of 10 k programme and a swim so something is being done!!!
Managed 2 runs last week so I am happy with that, plus about 30k of walking. Not as much as the week before but its all kilometerages ( I think I have just made that word up ) on the old pegs !
I hit my stone loss at Slimming World . Result- Get in !!! I am now Diet Pug - the Slimline , Low fat, no added sugar version . Ha ha !
Have a great week fellow questers and lots of hugs and bowls of Chicken Soup to all those on the IC, another day closer to recovery xxxx
I lost most of the week with a back problem, no swimming, My first proper excercise was with parkrun on Saturday and got a PB. Resting is obviously good for me!
