C25K Take 3.

First did C25K 2 years ago, got to the end of week 8 and had to stop because of hormone/health problem. Finally felt able to try again earlier this year, that time getting to week 6 before a thyroid meds hiccup brought a holt to proceedings. Very, very frustrating! Started running again a couple of weeks ago, using the Zest Running Made Easy plan but got a bit bored with that so have decided to try C25K again. Fingers crossed I will be able to go all the way this time.

Decided to start on week 2 as have been doing some running for a couple of weeks. Completed W2 R1 yesterday and everything was fine. Am really looking forward to completing the plan and doing my first Parkrun.

Shame about your past experiences but well done on starting again.

I'm on thyroid meds too and know how annoying those blips can be. I sometimes had to have an extra rest day or repeat a run but got there - so you can too! I have found it has given me more energy overall although do get those fatigue days too. I also found diet helps enormously for me - gluten free, no / low sugar (except fruit) and vitamin supplements.

Thanks so much for yor reply helenbones, it's so nice to hear from a fellow thyroid traveller.

Have already given rest days some thought and have decided to leave 2 days between runs. It'll take a little longer to complete the plan but if it means being able to avoid those really frustrating thyroid blips I don't mind one bit.

Glad you have had some success with diet, low sugar is definitely something I should try and implement as I have quite a sweet tooth which I'm not sure does me a whole lot of good.

sometimes it has been more than 2 rest days, but not too often and you do have to be kind to yourself (although I had to give myself a talking to as well!). There is no race, just do what you can and don't worry if it takes longer than 9 weeks - I do think the programme is very good and if it is more about being able to run for 30 mins than the distance. I don't run fast but I am out there doing it which I couldn't ever have thought I would a year ago.
