Congratulations, you have taken the biggest step already - starting the programme. Well done. Lots of folk on here have asthma and overweight and many have seen a big improvement in both areas. My own breathing ain't so hot at times but running has been great. This forum is a fantastic place, you will get lots of encouragement, good information and we will all celebrate your graduation with you when the time comes.

Just a reminder to stretch after your run, Laura doesn't mention that but it saves you getting stiff (and prevents injury too). Welcome to the club :)

So right about the stretches. After my first run I couldn't move for about 3 days! After the second run after reading posts on this forum I did all the stretches, and hardly any problems at all after that (except for my dodgy knees, but that's another whole story!). Well done you. Just take it easy. I think I run slower than I walk, but that's ok. I also discovered that while it may feel a bit more hard work running on grass, it's very much better for your joints, so if you're a bit overweight I would recommend finding a good flat park to run round.

Congratulations on starting - thats the hardest step over with. Just take it easy, stretch afterwards (as the posters above say) and remember that fantastic buzz you get when you finish!

Hi SLowFit, been away from the laptop for a while but just wanted to add my 'hello and welcome' to the others. I too am asthmatic and was 5 stones (now 4) overweight and am on week 8 so it can be done. Slow and steady!

Hi and welcome from me too! I have found reading this forum helps me keep getting out of the door, it really is inspiring to read everyone's achievements. I also need to lose a fair bit of weight, but am encouraged by the mantra oft repeated on here, slow and steady does it! Well done and let's get there!
