Definetely an interesting read, I know a lot of us are into our stats (me included), but it just goes to show that we should not focus too heavily on these and listen to our bodies so that we can continue to enjoy our running.

On two separate occasions I have run PBs after having a fortnights break from running. It is acknowledged that these breaks enable the body to repair and rebuild and you come back stronger, rather than having lost condition. I believe that a lot of the race training plans are based on those used by elite runners and actually work you too hard in the last few days. Most do taper, but I think that we amateurs will do better if we give ourselves more rest immediately prior to a race. This is based on my very limited experience and observations of the way that my 58 year old body reacts. There is so much to learn!!

I read that and it's prompted me to run less once I get this weekend's 10 mile out the way

Less is more apparently. I am nearly 57 years old and want to keep running forever now I have got the bug. I realise that to do so means quality rather than quantity

Being as you mentioned "tapering" Iannoda. Can I say the immortal words "I am tapering"

I never though in a million years I would be saying that. I've not said it out loud though so glad you permit me to write it here and indulge me. Ta
