Unexpected side effect of running!

Like a lot of people here, I began running to get fitter. But what it's also done is to make me more aware of my body and what it can do. I've learned to eat more healthily and am doing other exercise as well as running, including weights! (Good for toning those pesky "labwings") or ladies bingo wings!

Anyway, we were getting some work done in the house and I was about to lift a pretty heavy bag and one of the workmen said " I'll lift that love. It's a bit heavy" to which I replied " thanks but I'll do it" and lifted it with one hand! He did look a bit gob smacked as there's not much to me but I am strong!

Thank you running for making me a fitter, stronger and healthier princess.

  • Well done it is nice to find the other benefits of this running lark

  • Yeah who'd have thought?!

  • Lol. Well done ;)

  • Thank you.

  • It's amazing how something as simple as going for a run can change one's outlook on life in so many different ways. Wonderful to hear about your sand bag.

  • Yes you're right. My mindset is different too.

  • I am sure that lifting that weight was partly psychological. Getting through this training plan does wonders for your confidence and self esteem, as well as building you physically. Stick with it, it is a win win game.

    Keep running, keep smiling.

  • I've found that I am much calmer too. More patience in queues, less stressed with bad drivers, etc etc. As you say, it's a win win.

  • I like training with hand weights! Can't believe I just said that. My son gave them to me when he moved out. Lucky me. Thought they'd come in handy for something other than just wedging the door open.

  • I love my weights. I've always done them but am much more disciplined since I started running. Don't think I'll threaten Popeye any day soon but I could give Olive Oil a run for her money!
