Annoying setbacks...

I'm still on Week 6, and haven't been out running since Day 2 (11 days ago). I picked up a summer cold, so have been coughing/sneezing/spluttering all over the place for about a week now. I'm going to wait until it fully passes before attempting Day 3.

The only issue is, once I get back running, will I still be able to run for 25 minutes? Or will I have to go back a day? I've been keeping up my activity as much as possible, with regular bike rides mostly, so I'm hoping that helps.

I just hate not being able to go out there :( I never thought I'd say it, but I really miss running!

Had the whole summer cold thing myself. Horrible. Now, here's the big secret about will you or won't you be able to carry on where you left off.... If you think you can, you will.... and if you think you can't, well, let's not go there.

Of course you can. You'll be fine.

Sorry to hear you haven't been well. Let's hope it won't be too much longer before you are up and running again :)

Good for you Rosalindar with your keenness. You are better to get past the cold but you won't know till you go out there just how you'll get on. Play it by ear and see how you feel when you're warming up. But you'll soon get back on track. Good luck and happy running.

Just try it and see, rosalindar. Don't underestimate how much a cold can reduce your ability to perform at your peak, so give it plenty of time, but as Rob says it is very much an attitude of mind as well. You won't have lost much condition at your age, but if you can't manage it, either drop back or repeat again.

Good luck, get well soon.

So what if you have to go back a day? You're still running loads. Give yourself a break and do what you feel you need to. Even if you started week 6 again, it would only be a couple of runs before you're back to the third run of the week. You're still doing awesome. :)

Hi Rosalindar

I was in a similar position to you last month; I'd had overkill with dance, work and running and had a flu that took 3 weels to get over fully. I was able to pick up where I left off ( I think it was run 2/3 in week 6) and carry on without any problems. It's nice when you get to the stage where you look forward to runs. I still have to force myself sometimes, although I tend to enjoy them. Get well soon!
