Indeed - and especially us girls who just could not do any form of public exercise in large parts of the world. Remember the female Middle Eastern athletes at the Olympics for the first time hampered by their running dress.
My english teacher at school came to us direct from teaching in burundi and she told us all about the problems for the people there. The girls were desperate for education and we felt guilty at our own blase attitude towards it when she told us about the problems they faced on a daily basis.
