Anyone got some suggestions for an energizing but light breakfast? I tend to go for my runs about 6 in the morning and need something quick and easy to give me some energy - I seem to be losing a bit of motivation as well, even though this is the 2nd time I've graduated.
What to eat?: Anyone got some suggestions for an... - Couch to 5K
What to eat?
A nice ripe banana goes down well for me before an early morning run -- plus water. But I try to eat it as long before the run as possible. Food needs to be digested before running .
Ooh Ooh ! It has to be Miles Yonder's rice cakes with peanut butter.
A slice of squidgy malt loaf does me well! x
I would have a home made energy bar or a banana. If it was later in the morning I would have porridge or muesli and berries
I always run on empty as I never eat breakfast and on my fast days I don't eat lunch either. I seem to have far more energy than if I've eaten anything at all.
You need to eat pasta the night before, so that your body can process the carbs in time for your early morning run. My friends who do 10km and Half Marathons etc, all swear by needing carbs the day before your run.
Yeah that's, true but make it wholewheat pasta!!!
Don't eat breakfast or lunch Gingernut! Crikey. How anyone runs on empty beats me. Runners need fuel. Well, this one does! LOL
I asked a similar question a while ago as I'm an early morning runner too - 5am!
I've found that I can manage okay just on empty though (using fuel from last night's tea?!) I try to half a glass of water before setting out to make sure I'm hydrated but that's it.
I think when I asked the question someone suggested a small Petit Filous yoghurt beforehand which I thought was a great idea but haven't managed to try it yet LOL.
I run in the mornings and I don't eat til I get back or maybe til lunch. As long as I've had a good dinner the night before I am fine, but I do have a small glass of squash (proper stuff with real sugar) before I head out.
I run on empty too, first thing in the morning but make sure I always have a good meal the night before. Miles_Yonder is the person to ask about pre-run food!
Energy bar about 20 minutes before I head out and a big glass of water (also about 20 minutes before I run)... I have the big breakfast when I get back in as I find I run better on "empty"... good healthy meals for the rest of the day and nothing too heavy the night before...
I made some bread t'other day for my running days. I sliced it up, wrapped each piece separately and put it in the freezer in a tupper, to defrost overnight ready for pre or post run. Wholemeal spelt with honey, figs, hazelnut and dark choc chips. If that doesn't encourage me to run I don't know what will!
Oooh, that sounds delicious. Recipe pleeeeze? I know this is an old post, but I was just browsing ... Pretty novice at breadmaking, but even my beginner housebrick results still taste better than the sugary/salty stuff from the supermarket. To push my luck a bit further, is it poss to make bread without wheatflour?
Thanks everyone, you've got some great ideas, although I don't think I could run on empty - I need all the help I can get lol But I don't think a Petit Filous yogurt would even touch the sides Spiky - have you seen how small they are?
I pop in a 2-4 of dates to give me that little lift to get started, then I usually find I'm fine (running just after 6.30am). I feel lighter running on an empty stomach...
I love dried fruit, especially cherries ! They are easily transportable too
The spelt bread loaf is off the Dove spelt bread bag. I probably put the choc chips in on a whim. Works though!
