Is anyone else doing the City 5k in London in July? Received my official invite yesterday. The distance doesn't concern me, but it will be the first time I've run with anyone other than.....me!

Any advice gratefully received.

Good luck. I am doing a Race for Life 5k in July. I am hoping the crowd of ladies running/jogging/walking will carry me along as well as the atmosphere! My next run is only w3/r3 so still have a way to go! I ran with a group of ladies the other evening which wasn't too bad (locally organised R4L training sessions! :-) )We get so used to running our own with our earphone in with Laura for company!

The biggest "problem" I find when running in a "race" (Parkrun) is to allow the other runners to influence my pace - especially in the early part of the race. There is no doubt in my mind that I must force myself to ignore what anybody else is doing and run my own race-- otherwise if I start out too fast, it is a BIG mistake for me.

Totally agree with what Bazza says, just go at your own pace.

When you say City 5k, you don't mean the JP Morgan 5.6k, do you? I'm on that with my work team in July, hoping to beat my previous time of a horrifying 46 mins!

Hi, it's the standard chartered great city race on the 10th of July. I'm in my works team! I see from last years results that the ability range is pretty wide. Clearly some ringers up front going round in under 15 minutes and then all they way back to 50 minutes plus at the rear. They've asked me how fast I expect to go round as part of the sign up.... Frightening!

As long as you have a diverse team you'll be fine. There are the usual city folk that take the competition very seriously so as long as you can blank that out you'll have fun! X
