..that going for a run after doing a Pilates class would be a good idea. I thought I'd be loose limbed but with strong and toned muscles, eating up the distance in the afternoon sun. Hmm! Instead, I really struggled to complete my normal route and staggered back shattered and sweaty. Not helped by it being 19.5 degrees. Now I know that people like Bazza and RunningnearBeirut have to run in much hotter temperatures - but for heaven's sake - this is North Yorkshire in April!
You'd think...: ..that going for a run after... - Couch to 5K
You'd think...
This is kind of like the debate between whether one should stretch before doing any form of exercise. Even those who agree that you should stretch say it should never be for more than 30 seconds per stretch. Anything longer, would be helping improve the flexibility of your muscles and having your muscles too loose can cause one to be more clumsy and increase the potential for injury. Not to mention that most people seem to forget that Pilates or anything else that helps improve muscle flexibility is exercise too. Perhaps best not to overdo it
I do Pilates on the same day as a run but keep them several hours apart. My Pilates exercises on run days are just short sessions anyway. A class is a bit of a different matter - you have probably worked quite hard for an hour. I keep my longer Pilates sessions for non-running days and that seems to work out well for me. Good luck with your next run - it will most likely be a good one. Best wishes.
I run on Tuesday and Thursday morning then have shower in gym and then Pilates class I find it works for me as am not good at stretching on my own . I have snack in car before shower otherwise would feel too hungry/ light headed at Pilates ( also have bacon roll and cappuccino after but that's another story!!) 19.5 deg Wow! I must say not looking forward to running in heat as only started last autumn - but I do want hot summer just not first thing on tues and Thursday mornings oh and not on sat at Park run either please
I do try to avoid running in the heat - I now know it's heading towards summer temperatures as I always find myself heading for the shade (still low humidity so it does make a difference, unlike in the "real" summer).
I find my energy gets drained quicker when it's warmer, so tend to slow down (although that means I'm out there longer so it's all swings and roundabouts!).
I run in the morning on Saturdays and early evening (while still light, so can't be too late here) in the week. So far my warmest run of this year has been about 23 degrees, so you're not actually that much cooler. Am heading to Yorkshire in July for a holiday - never been except for overnight conferences in Leeds and Harrogate where sadly I only ever saw the inside of a hotel so looking forward to exploring ... and some lower temps than here in July!
It's Global warming!!!
Sounds like the weather in beautiful North Yorkshire is much the same as here in Brisbane, Australia - it was 19C this morning at 7AM when I went for my 7 klm run/walk. It was a real relief for it to be so COOOOL for a change.
PS when you run in Yorkshire, do you have to hurdle all those stone fences???
No! I'm on the edge of the Vale of York so mostly flat farmland - will the Moors and the Dales in the far distance.
