Duplicating each week?

I've finished my first week!! A GP friend of mine suggested I do each week twice (she did it like that for age reasons, mine is weight/joint reasons) so I have started week one again. I think that will only be okay to week 5 as it steps up a gear then. Any thoughts??

I think that's a good idea. You can always reduce the duplication when you start seeing improvements. There's also The Strength & Flex podcast on here that you can do on top of the runs. You could check with your friend to see which ones she thinks are ok, or just try some but take them easy.

I'm all for it, but only if you think you need it. I know it's subjective, but if you manage to meet all the goals for that week, then move on, if you can't meet the next weeks goals, repeat until you can. That's the way I did it. Took me ages, but I shed 5 stone in the process.

Welcome to this fantastic prog and forum . I started this last aug aged 59 and 3st overweight I have now lost 1st9lbs and this week ran 10k for the first time I did exactly what Laura said and was lucky in not having to repeat a week. I was VERY slow but kept thinking about the tortoise and the hare story Everyone is different and you do have to listen to your body but personally I don't see any reason why you should automatically repeat every week At the end of the day it doesn't matter how you get there but if you do what Laura says you will get there Good luck

Neither do I, it will just take twice as long, and if you're able to do it why would you repeat it. It seems to be making the job harder than it should be. You only need to repeat if you've not finished a run.

Have confidence in the programme, and if you do what LAURA tells you then you'll be be celebrating Graduation in next to no time. Good luck

C25K is not a race to get it finished so be guided by your body. If you need to repeat the odd run or two then do it knowing your are being sensible. If it takes you a few more weeks then that's fine, your muscles, strength and stamina will build up as time goes on and you will probably find it gets easier after the first week or two.

All the best to you, you have joined a group of people many of which were in the same position as yourself when they started but now have found a wonderful new way of life, a fitter, healthier and happy one. :)

I used to repeat each week before going on to the next and, by doing that, found it easy to move on to the next stage. I hadn't run for ages and so began the programme again - this time not repeating any weeks. I've just finished week 2 and found it hard going so I will be reverting to duplicating each week as that works much better for me. I'd be inclined to listen to the GP on this one. It's not a competition to see who can complete first, it's supposed to be a programme for one's own health, fitness and well-being. Good luck with your runs whatever you decide to do. Best wishes.

I reckon if I'd made myself do Week 1 twice I'd've given up. Getting the 3 Week 1 sessions under my belt was really tough, I had to work up to it over a good many weeks. Yet the rest of C25K went pretty smoothly - ran pretty much every other day and was successful on every outing (which isn't to say that some of them didn't feel like 'bad runs').

I can't see why anyone would need to do the week one run 6 times rather than 3 before moving on just because they were over a certain age. If you've completed Week 1 in 3 outings, congratulate yourself and move on. Sometimes people are very anxious about 'failing' and would rather repeat and repeat than try the next stage and risk not managing it and, erm, having to repeat...????

im a relatively new starter and im opting for doing each week twice....mainly becuase I have low self esteem and thi k I cant do the next week without feeling comfortable what im doing. im also not a very fit person so need to build on that. tonight will be w2r1 for the second time.x

Rather than putting your decision down to low self esteem why not think of it as an EMPOWERING decision to do what is best for you. You know your own body better than anyone else can and that is the only thing that matters. I've tried it both ways and will do what I know is best for me - that is empowering, just as everything else I do these days. I am not obliged to justify myself to anyone. It's like my keep fit/Pilates exercises - I do a bit each day and the results were amazing - brought the critics and saboteurs out in droves. I imagine those critics in clowns outfits with big ears and potato shaped noses - makes me laugh which is even more empowering! Best wishes. I'm out shortly to do Week 2 Run 1 again.
