Scared of each week! 😂

Hi guys,

My name is Tammie. I started couch to 5k recently. I’m currently one run off week 3. I find myself absolutely petrified of week 3 and the length of running time in the upcoming weeks and wondering how I’ll manage? Has anybody else felt like this? X

Hi Tammie, I started yesterday and am also pretty terrified of the increases in running times in further weeks. My plan is to repeat weeks until I feel confident of going up to the next week. The thought that I can do that if I need to is my little safety net! Good luck!

That’s a good plan to have. It’s a great feeling when you finish though 😍 xx

Hi I’m just about to do wk3 r3 and I am so happy how much better I found it than week 2 I think the less stopping and starting the quicker it feels and less repetition makes it seem shorter. I think you will be pleasantly surprised how well it goes x from an overweight nearly 50 year old nana 😂😍 mind over matter you can do this xxx

Yes....I'm 61 started this program at Xmas and still here on week 7. Follow the advice on your App, go slowly, take care am d you will improve and get over the fear....then the endorphins will kick in and you'll feel very proud of yourself!

Wow well done you! How did you find each week getting harder and harder? Xx

It's a real challenge with dark cold sometimes icy mornings, but you feel yourself gradually improving. I've always had mild asthma so I take my inhaler too but haven't yet used it! Just choose a time and route that suits you and go for it!

Hi Tammie2812, I am currently on week 5 and I felt the same approaching each new week!

I did feel like I hit a wall during week 3, but on W3R3, I felt great! Then I looked forward to pushing myself with week 4.

As the programme goes on, you do get into the rhythm of running and after the first few minutes of a run, it does become enjoyable. I always find the first couple of minutes of each running section hard to get into. So the longer running periods some times feel easier than the constant stop/starting (haha, this could just be me)

Keep going with the programme and you'll smash it :D

I agree with your I found that too 😊

Believe me - everyone did :) Read the beginner posts of graduates and you will see we all spent our early day in fear and trepidation :)

This programme is for people who thought they could "never" run. It is populated with Runners like me who even after years running and with great distances achieved spend the first ten or fifteen minutes of EVERY run thinking "I don't think I'll make it this time..." :)

Take it slow and steady. Surveys we've done here show that less than ten percent graduate in 9 weeks/with 5k anyway :) Read the excellent pinned post for beginners and keep posting and reading here.

Hardest part - again, believe me! - is just gearing up and going out the door. After that, the run takes care of itself. Mostly it's good, sometimes not "great" but - a run is a run is a run :)

Wishing you many happy miles in your future :)

We might run on our own, but because of this Forum we never run alone. :)

You have found your People, fellow Runner :)

Hi, I can't find the pinned post for Beginners... which one are you referring to? Thanks!

You just forced me to figure it out, thanks. At the bottom of the screen choose Communities. Then go to Couch to 5 K. Then there’s a link to “pinned posts”. You can scroll down. There’s one I really like from Iannoda Truffe called FAQ. Also, if you’re new, you’ll probably be sent a link. 😊 Welcome to the team.

Good luck with your next run🤗 If you could ask anyone in my life they would tell you how I never saw myself as a runner. Far from it! Yet here I am, still (more than) overweight but running 3 times a week after graduating in January. It’s ok to feel a bit anxious, but trust yourself and the next run...as Irish-John says you always start a run thinking this is not going to happen etc but just keep on keeping on and you will be fine. 🌈

Welcome.

Brisk walking and conversational paced running take pretty much the same effort... both raise the heart rate, both workout the legs... so instead of focusing on the run intervals, look at the whole thing... the time from the start of warmup to the end of cooldown only changes gradually. This means that the steps up are actually quite small. The intervals are for safe development and conditioning of your muscles. You can do every run... relax before them and don’t run too fast. Enjoy your journey.

Well done you..but stop looking ahead. Check out the FAQ post for newbies..trust the plan and know you will do it.

Each run..each week makes you stronger...take it slow and steady and you will be ready for each one.😉

Wow guys Thankyou for all your encouraging messages I’m blown away by the support. I’m taking it all on board and hopefully WKR1 won’t be so bad after all 😊

Hi Tammie, I just didn’t look ahead at all until I got to week 5. I just tapped start run and did it albeit with a few cuss words thrown in. For me I found it easier not to know what was coming because I would have thought myself out of being able to do them. You can do it, just have faith in the programme and enjoy your achievements

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and includes a link to a post about mental approach, which may be helpful.

There is nothing to fear in C25K......... honestly.
