Never been a runner - a total novice in fact but now need to get fit. Diagnosed with lymphoma Oct 11 and have had chemo. Worked all through treatment but when finished decided to give my notice in. Now have the time to get out there during the day. Will find it very hard I'm sure but at least our chocolate lab will love it! Also need to lose 2 stone so hope this will help.
Week 1 about to start next week. : Never been a... - Couch to 5K
Week 1 about to start next week.
Good luck with your new running adventure. You'll find a great supportive bunch on here. You'll also notice that you will get some more energy too.
Good luck.
Good luck hope your first run goess well x
I started running because I felt it was the best way to improve my health and life expectancy. So far I m confident it is working. I'm sure the same will be true for you. It is a magical journey. Enjoy it!
Congratulations on both your decisions. The NHS C25K podcasts are very accessible to those of us with additional challenges. I shall look forward to hearing how you get on. It took me countless (12+) attempts to get the 3 Week 1 sessions completely successfully. After that I never had to repeat a run and was mostly able to run every other day. I run with my dog and I've recently got a waist belt with a hands free lead which is great for places where she needs to be on a lead. I am fortunate to have lots of uplifting places to run and can avoid roads and pavements to take care of my joints.
Googleme, That was so reassuring to read that you had to keep re-running weeks! The same is happening to me at the mo and I feel stuck! Almost giving up, but today I shall get back out there! Thanks for the motivation.
Ah, so glad it helped! I didn't get de-motivated because I celebrated getting out there every time and I also used the strategy of stopping the session when I had to walk when I should have been running and walked all the way to the end of the podcast. That way it was very clear that I was still making progress and completing more and more of it (or at least not going backwards) I was so chuffed that I managed the first 4 runs the first time I tried the podcast - that was half! Yay! When I graduated I tried Week 1 again and it was still really tough - I seem to find it hard to pace myself, too easy to go too fast (for me) That said, interval training is really good stuff and I think it is great that the NHS plan starts you off with it.
Good luck! Running seems to be good for the soul as well as the body. I hope you enjoy the programme.
good luck with the challenge, i am sure you will enjoy it, it does wonders for your health both physically and mentally. I know when i started i was feeling down and had become a couch potato, now i enjoy the goals set each week, i feel i have a purpose, my stamina has improved,i eat healthy, have lost a little weight and i have gained respect from people i work with who can't believe what i am doing, this has boosted my confidence. You go for it and see!!!!
I am also a beginner, I've started the programme a few times, things can happen that may mean you have to stop and start back or you may be lucky like many people here and just plough straight through with no problems. But you will always find support and motivation to keep you going here... The first day is the first step to a new you! Well done
Good luck, hope it brings you a great feeling inside
Sue, this is an amazing programme with amazing people on this forum who will help you through it. Congratulations on taking life by the throat and making a difference. Good luck
Thank you all. Have joined the local gym too on a GP pass so off to my first 1hour aerobic session at lunchtime. Will be interesting to see how I get on. Then plan to start the running at beginning of next week. At the moment do a 3 mile walk no probs but running
Welcome. Well done on deciding to start. I have 2.5 stone to lose and I take my dog with me. German shepherd x whippet. she knows when I get my trainers on that we are going and she loves it. When we get home as long as she has listened reasonably well she gets a treat and huge fusses. The fusses I think are more for me! Just take your time and stick with it.

Congratulations on deciding to start the programme. It will certainly do wonders for your health and self esteem. As has already been said, you will find other forum members very supportive and encouraging. If you combine your exercise with healthy eating you will lose the weight. All the very best with the programme. Good luck.
Good luck. Really nice to have you on board. Although I was a little envious when I thought you had a Chocolate laboratory - It's ok now - I realise it's a dog - I just have a one track mind. Sure your chocolate lab will love it too.
