Finally decided with some regret that I wouldn't do the Great Winter Run today. Having srained my ankle 2 weeks ago it is still sore and I reckon that a busy, hilly and potentially icy course is just too risky. Ah well maybe next year.

GWR
Sometimes as much as it pains us we have to listen to our bodies. I am sure you have made a wise decision but I feel your pain. There is always the next one with a perfectly healed ankle.
You must be so disappointed but think you have made right decision Ankle that's not not 100% and ice doesn't make a good combination Hope ankle back to normal soon Take care (See they showing live cross running from holy rood on BBC1 just now )
I really hope the ankle gets better soon, sorry to read you did not compete. The GWR was really good (a bit dodgy on the pavements to the event with sheet ice) but the course was great and not icy - well done City of Edinburgh Council. Despite thinking it seemed harder and more difficult than when I did the course last October for my Race for Life when we got the time I have a new pb so was really really chuffed as this is a completely different course to the flatter Parkruns where I have been previously timed. Despite saying to my friend I did not want any more challenges at the moment as I still get really nervous, conquering the time is surely going to lead on to some more parkruns.
We might even take you up with the Edinburgh Parkrun in order to tie a trip in with some retail therapy afterwards.
