hello beautiful runners...its been a while since I blogged, probably becuase of our facebook group...sorry!!!

Anyway...

I have struggled to go out and run

I made myself run at weekends due to my full on job in the week...

I will keep this brief....

I went out for a run last sunday and did 18k with my boy ( Leon who is 12) and my very special friend on their bike. It was perfecto...so slow but we chatted and had a laugh....I got a packet of randoms at 15k and it made all the difference ( stuffed them down my trousers)

This weekend= 10k Friday, 5k sat ( parkrun) and then it was supposed to be a HM on Sunday...but ended up a 7k

well....I got dropped off and I enjoyed it ( sort of, my legs were complaining)...and I thought 'ok Ju, just keep running, when you get to 5k the muscle ache will ease)...it didn't..so at 7k I stopped, ate my drumstick which was supposed to be my treat at 10k ( not chicken...chewy naughty number) and hubby collected me with more chocolate...I felt like s**t...failure in bright lights...

Then I thought...OK, your muscles hurt, what would Laura say ( rest days...mmmmmmm).

My conclusion:

Naughty Julia, expecting too much of my poor elderly bod 3 days in a row...

Plan:

Been reading womens running marathon plan..with the utterly sexy Nell McAndrew on the cover...

Running 3 times a week ( with gaps)

Swimming

Rowing machine...

I cannot do all that stretchy, aerobic arsey stuff, its just not me...

Sign up for a marathon in 2014...OH YESSSSSSSS. I actually think I can.

good food, no beauties and less wine

Lots of sweets mid run and companions ( please come and run with me for a Juicyju chat)...

I love this blog...its got me to where I am now, thankyou!!!!!!

Juicyju

x

I'm not surprised your body said "STOP!" Rest days are important so they say - or so Laura says! I love my rest days cos as much as I tolerate running, I LOVE having a day where I do t have to do it!

Good luck with signing up for a marathon you total nutter! If anyone can do it, YOU can!

I didn't know you could do arsey aerobics? Must see if I can find a class......!

The temptation of missing rest days. You suffer for it (or I do anyway). I was going great guns thinking I sisnt need them boy was I wrong, and am suffering now. I think a few treats is good. Don't they say moderation is always better. I agree on the classes thing now I have found outdoor exercise I don't think I will ever go back to the gym. Might have to eat my words if we have a bad winter. But love the thought of marathon for you. I have signed for my triathlon. I am doing it for LCdisabiltiy and I know last week they were looking for london marathon runners. Great that it sounds like the panther is awake and charging around now. Good for you.

It is all or nothing with you, isn't it! Really, if you aren't running in the week then running two days in a row is probably fine, but three days? And with long runs on two of them? I'm not surprised your legs complained.

You're fretting about not exercising in the week and then trying to make up for it all at the weekend. Danger is that something will go pop - and then you'll be stuck not running for anything from a few weeks up.

I've been pleased at making a few PBs recently - but after each one there's been a resulting minor injury (hamstring, shin, now something in the knee), so I'm forced to realise there is a price to pay for pushing too hard too soon, even if my mind doesn't believe it.

If you really want the marathon and you are limited for time in the week, then maybe drop the Parkrun and concentrate on the longer distances at the weekend with a rest day in between?

You're achieving amazing distances already - adding a marathon would be fantastic. :D

Great advice, thankyou so much... And I hope you are ok? It's so easy isn't it just to push too much....you take care :) my passion is for long runs rather than speed, it's what I enjoy most, but I need the speedy parkruns to give me the stamina for the long ones....thankyou, you are always so spot on and lovely too :)

Poor elderly bod? Excusez-moi. Tha'rt nobbut a youngster!! But, however you look at it, you've had a great year. Look back on that with pride, satisfaction and all those other feel-good things.....and have a few rest days now & again. And one last thing - don't let Dan lead you astray on those arseyrobics; nothing good will come of it!!!

Good grief...you're amazing!! Love the drumstick lolly, Randoms and chocolate! Yum!! But surely- even the best panthers need to rest? Hope the bod hasn't complained too much today.

I'm with you on the arsey aerobics- I just about cope with Pilates once a week but keep my ears closed to all the rubbish chit chat!

Go on, sign up for the marathon; I'm aching to read your training blogs. You can do it!

Tut tut JJ! Rest days are so important! Landesman is right, you're trying to jam a weeks worth of running into a weekend. You'll do yourself an injury and then where would we all be without our inspirational Panther blogs!!

I'm finding two rest days suit me a treat now, they stop my shinsplints from flaring up. I found it frustrating at first, but have now found I can run much further by doing so. When I was running 5km three times a week I was struggling to up my distances. But now I'm increasing by half a mile a week (roughly!)

I think a marathon is a fabulous idea for you - you'll smash it no doubt. I hope to master my challenge next May (Rat race, in case anyone had missed me mentioning it?? LOL) and then hopefully work towards the LM in 2015. (unless that pesky husband of mine talks me into popping another kid out......hmmmm..not likely at the moment!)

Keep Panthering, but don't wipe the Panther out! We need her!

Happy running xx
