I have just finshed w8! And due to graduate this time next week. I have been managing just over 4k in 28 mins and was really keen to get to 4.5k in week 8.
Today I went out (in the rain) and did 4.5k in 29.17 mins. I always knew 5k in30 mins was ambitious and haven't really been too fussed about it but its just so temptingly close! I think my plan is to run 30 mins for the next 2 runs, trying to improve pace and for my final forget the time and focus on the distance.
And then work on getting 5k in 30 post grad!

You're doing great. 5K in 30 mins is something to aim for, but I think many people don't achieve it in the 9 weeks. (I guess the name of the plan is a little confusing in that respect). Stick at it though, you are really not too far off it (less than 500m). One day the sun will shine, you will feel all fired up inside, and then it will just happen.
Ha! I'm just focusing on finishing the 28 mins. No idea how much distance I'm covering. It probably isn't much as I don't run fast - more like a gentle plod! Pace? Forget it! Glad you're doing well though. Running in the rain is surprisingly pleasant.
I've just finished week 8 and I'm at about the same pace as you. I would like to do the 5k in 30 minutes during the last week too, but I'm not sure I'll get it in by then. Have you been monitoring your pace? I've just bought a Garmin watch, I seem to run at about 9:50 for the first 10 minutes and then drop down to about 10:30. I'm thinking as I get fitter I'll be able to run the 9:50 for longer. I'm going to alternate the Stepping Stones podcasts with normal runs to try to improve the 5k time and then hopefully move onto 10k distance. Although tbh I can't believe I'm writing this, I couldn't run at all a while ago, lol.
Wow ReyC, I'm impressed! I'm just off for my W7 25 minute plod and I'll be lucky to clock 3K! I know how frustrating it is to have a target in mind and not quite make it though. But please don't let it get in the way of enjoying your last few runs and feeling that well deserved sense of achievement when you graduate!
Don't worry about the distance. If you keep up with the running, most of the coaching podcasts tell you that with distance running it's stamina and not the speed that's essential. You build up on the distance gradually and then include interval training or hill training to work on your speed.
You're doing really well. Keep up the good work and don't overdo things!
