No advice as such other than go steady. Don't push too hard or you'll injure yourself and feel defeated. I've lost three and half stone over two years by eating healthier and exercising more, so it is possible! It may seem like a long journey, but I've kept the weight off for 18 months now.

I found doing the couch to 5k a great way of easing myself into running after a severe ankle injury. I'm on week 6 and I can't believe I've had no pain in my ankle. The steady pacing, positive messages from Laura and this happy forum will always pick you up.

I'd recommend you invest in a decent pair of running shoes if you haven't already. Go and have your gait analysed and choose an appropriate shoe for your feet. And ALWAYS stretch. Your muscles will thank you for it. Lots of stretching advice is available here, but Google and YouTube have plenty of ideas too.

Good luck with your challenge!

If you have a smartphone then myfitnesspal is ace, their website is a little less ace. But that and the c25k have helped me shed 36kg (5ish stone) since March 2012

I would just say follow the programme, take it at your own pace, believe you can do it and you will! Also, Laura doesn't mention this but do some stretches after each run, otherwise you might get a bit stiff :)

Just do the C25K you will be ready for the Race for Life and when it comes do not panic if you are not running 5k in 30 mins as the goal of just keeping running to the finish line keeps you going. You will succeed.

I did this programme starting in May and did my Race for Life last Saturday and although it took longer than my previous times for a 5k the motivation to keep running was not an issue.

Agree with crox: myfitnesspal is excellent for monitoring what you eat, along with the C25K. I've lost 35 pounds since January and I am now in training for a half marathon in Feb 2014.

It'll definitely get you running the 5K! I still have just under 3st to lose after shedding close to 11st with Slimming World. Even walking Race for Life has always been a push for me, but now I know I'll be running my local one in May :)

My advice would be to just take it slowly, if you struggle to complete the runs, just slow yourself down. x
