Gentlemen - It's getting colder out there, you know where this is going.....

Any advice on something a little warmer than thin shorts? I have warmer tops, but the shorts are failing to meet up to expectations now.

Compression shorts and running leggings work for me (though Dan is probably the expert in this area).

Yup, I'll second that. Just got back and I'm glad I went compression shorts and long tights! May be worth having a browse on Sports Direct website too

Thanks guys. I knew you would understand. I was thinking about a short pair (mid thigh) length compression shorts, and normal shorts on top. I don't fancy the 'all lycra' look.

Those (thigh length) work well, but some bits can get suprisingly cold when running (hands, head, legs) so I don't really care what I look like, I'd rather be comfortable (must be an age thing....). Besides, unless you're a cyclist, you can get leggings in anonymous black, rather than a psychedelic starburst of garish colours....

Old fashioned, PE teacher style Ron Hill tights* are incredibly good value for money, long lasting, quick drying, comfortable, and are available in black. I swear by them for cycling (and in the last couple of weeks running) in the winter.

* Leggings? Tights? Running trousers? Pick your preferred name.

Thanks for this. They look cheap enough on Amazon.

Landesman is right, this is an area I know much about! I've taken to wrapping the "chaps" up well in lycra boxers, then a pair of thigh length lycra compression shorts - from Sports Direct. I top this little lot with a regular pair of shorts and so far everything is not only held in place, but kept at a reasonable temperature too! Especially these cold mornings when "the boys" need an little extra wrapping. Tally ho!

I've just ordered a pair of running tights as they will be more compressive and keep the whole length warm too... I've also found some great running knickers ... And they do ones for boys too...designed for running ( sloggi) So I'd suggest a combo like that will keep you all sorted for winter... And a buff is a must.
