As a 61year old very overweight woman I thought the whole project was a non starter, however a suggestion from my eldest son, an mp3 player as a birthday present and encouragement from my husband and two sons I decided to have a go. Any exercise over and above a brisk walk was a daunting proposition, walking upstairs I experience muscle aches and therefore wondered if running was even possibe- sixty seconds of very gentle jogging - but I did it. As each week has gone by I have managed each challenge. My pace is very slow and when Laura suggests that someone the other side of a high hedge can only see the top of your head- would find it difficult to tell if your walking or running I cracked that technique. I found this a very useful tip, after all it's sustaining the run not the speed that you go! well that's how I've manged it. So on the cusp of week 8 I've coped 25 minutes of continuous jogging and I'm officially a "runner" 'cause Laura says so. I can honestly say that I've never done this before, and am therefore feeling very pleased with myself and my success. So if you think that you're unable to do it - if I can then anyone can.

Well done " runner" ! It's a lovely feeling when Laura tells you that,isn't it ? Look how far you've come ...thanks to your encouraging husband and sons, not to mention the fantastic effort you have put in...your post will inspire others I am sure.

Just read this and you have inspired me to push on.Im 62 and like you a good walker but nothing beyond that.Im just about ready to complete week 6 and face the 25min continuous run.Rather daunting,but if you can do it so can I.Well done.I also go quite slow, but it doesn't matter.Best of luck and happy running for you're next run xxx
Well done. my husband is 65 & I keep telling him that he's not too old to join me but I think his hearing is going. I found that Laura's advice about the hedge was one of the best bits of advice as well. I was definitely bouncing like Tigger before that.
Hi all thanks for the positive feedback and encouragement - today wk8 R1- have successfully got 28 mins under my belt- I find it's worth taking a small bottle of water in case I get thirsty before I get back home also chewing gum tends to help from stopping you mouth getting too dry
