I am running in 3/4 leggings and baggy tshirt. I have my proper trainers, now am wondering what I should be wearing as it gets colder?

I am definitely a cold blooded person, so want to be warm! I am just starting out, so have absolutely no idea!

It is a difficult conundrum. I find that I overheat quite quickly, so I'm still in shorts and a T-shirt (preferably a wicking one) but I think the time is coming where I will swap to Capri pants and a longer t shirt. When I had my first go at C25K it was winter and I remember running in layers plus a hat and gloves, so I guess wear what you're comfy in...

Thanks....am not looking forward to running in the cold! Or the rain!

I'd say the same, then when it gets really cold full leggings, a light weight full sleeved top and some gloves. A woolly hat is nice when you start, but then you get too hot and end up carrying it...

Gloves seem to be the key thing - I've run in a good many degrees below zero very comfortably in long sleeved t shirt and leggings but I do need gloves. Oh and a buff is nice for your neck.

I wear my usual capri trousers with a long sleeved base layer top and my usual running t-shirt over the top but definitely with gloves! I found this was perfect last winter and never got too hot (could always roll up the sleeves if you do) sometimes the gloves came off :)

Great question and replies seem good. I have been wondering the same myself, I suffer from Raynauds and the panic has set in about running in cold weather.

If you're like me, you may need to experiment with several pairs of gloves to get what the correct degree of warmth for you. I had to wear two pairs: one thin pair of 'liner' gloves and different degrees of thickness of outer ones on top. I sometimes had to remove the outer gloves and if these did not come with a wee clip (many pairs of hiking gloves do), I'd join them with a safety pin and hang then on my wee phone belt bag.

Forgot to add: I think I'll try mittens as the outer layer this time as they are supposed to be better: They don't constrict the fingers so much and will be easier to put on and off when I need to remove them to adjust the controls on my mp3 player or Garmin.

I agree - I ran in anything except ice and snow last winter (even down to freezing if dry) and always wore calf length tights and a really comfy double layered long sleeve shirt (it's an Adidas one). Gloves and hat as well - they make all the difference. I also have an Aldi rain jacket but have to be careful only to wear that if it's actually raining or it gets too hot. Although I really dislike the cold and am a very cold-blooded person, I much prefer running in cooler conditions than even warm (not hot) weather.

Thanks so much for your replies. I wore a long sleeve light thermal top under my tshirt this morning and it worked well...I even looked the part!!!! Need to sort the gloves out though...hands were chilly first thing, but warmed up! Thanks again for your support x

I bought a great pair if running gloves from Lidl last week. They have an "iPod finger" so you don't need to take them off and a wind proof mitten bit that you can fold over or tuck in. Haven't worn them yet, but at only £3.99 they seemed worth a try.
