Bloomin' warm today.....

.....although not in Delia's Italian league. But it was very hot running alongside the Chesterfield Canal today, and reminded me why I don't normally run in the afternoon. Still, 10.02K done, in 57m55s. Pleased with that. And, halfway through the month and standing at 58.5K, I'm ahead of target to reach 100K this month.

Wildlife seen - ducks, various; rabbits, one. Don't normally see a rabbit and if he's out in the middle of the day I suspect he's not long for this world. Fisherpersons - two; ability to respond to a cheery greeting, nil. Miserable buggers, kick their maggots over next time!!!

That's an amazing time - it takes me about 47 mins to do 5k sometimes :D And wow, 58.5K!!!

Living not far away, I'm fascinated by the miserable bods you have up there. Down here in the Derbyshire Dales we have happy people who mostly respond to my puffed, 'Morning!' with a cheery 'Morning!' or 'Hello!' To be fair, I haven't tried any fisherpersons, but I'm fairly confident they'd be nice!

Thanks Annie. I hope they are cheerful down your way because they certainly aren't here. Walkers are fine, cyclists generally OK, families & singletons alike generally OK, but anglers are miserable buggers. I think it must be a certain psyche linked to coarse fishing; sitting for hours by a murky canal to catch something titchy which you can't even eat and have to throw back. I think that might even make me grumpy!!

Well and truly under the magic hour, you must be very pleased :-)

Yes indeed. Sweating cobs but very pleased!

Cracking pace, Ned. No wonder you were sweating cobs today. I was too and I was going slowly!

Thanks, although it pales considerably next to your 19k. Respect!!

Well done, great stats...I love the 100k idea... I'm going to go for that too...

I hate it when people are miserable... I would have given them a good rodding with their rods... Just not on. I had one of my favourite childhood holidays on a canal boat going where you ran.. It's stunning!!

It is indeed; I love running by the canal, & not just because it's flat (although that helps!). I despair at the fishermen - I grunt at them, they don't grunt back. But it's particular fun in winter when they are having competitions and sprawl their very long carbon-fibre rods across the towpath and have to move them when I cycle past. And then, half an hour later, move them again when I cycle back with the straightest of straight faces. Wonderful.

Brilliant timing Ned, very well done!

Thanks Delia; I was very mindful of the [greater] heat you are running in.

Off to the Tyrolese Alps tomorrow -- that'll cool me down!

Excellent. I lead a "Chaps Walking Group" up big mountains every other year - we were in the Dolomites a few years back and next year we're off to the Alpes Maritime on the French/Italian border. Looking forward to it already.

Excellent! Great scenery and, if I may say so, what better food than French and Italian? Except for bangers and mash with onion gravy; sticky toffee pudding etc. etc.

10k (fast) in the hot deserves a high 5! Miserable fishers.

Kick their stools out from under them - they'll acknowledge you next time!!!

Congratulations on the time. Linda

I've been tempted! They are on little wooden platforms built out over the canal so kicking their stools out would see them taking an early bath!!

Ned, that is a terrific time and, given the heat, it bodes well for even better times ahead on cool mornings. Hey, wait a minute! I think those grumpy-guts fisherfolk were your fuel. What inspiration to raise the knees a little higher, stride a little further, and call out a jolly "what's biting??" -- then whistle a happy tune as you disappear down the tow path. No better way to grind the grumpkins. We know exactly what's biting them and where! Good on you for seizing opportunistic cheer with your winter cycling style. Only thing better would be a friend following five minutes later with just the same moves. You are quite the inspiration, Ned. Keep it up!

Now that's a thought; I'll have to get someone to follow along behind!
