Runners High...

.. I graduated in April and have since had an up and down journey with running. I have still been running 3 times a week but for about 20 minutes until the hot weather hit and then it ground to a halt.

On Monday I got out for my first run again in 3 weeks and decided to run up a country lane near our housing estate .. as I ran passed a field I suddenly realised I had two deer running beside me (I had obviously startled them) and they were causing the herd of cows in the field to run with me too... I was running with nature (although even the cows were faster than me!) with Justin Timberlake playing on my Ipod (ok not my favourite but fantastic for that moment!) ... and I felt so incredibly fantastic, I danced and whooped after them...

... it was my 'this is why I run moment' :)

Have you had one yet?!

That sounds fantastic! After I graduated I started to enjoy the runs, look at the countryside and just relax and enjoy it, would love a moment like yours though. The best I've had was in the early days of running when I went to Tenerife for a week and ran by the sea, brilliant. Keep on enjoying the running, maybe the deer will join in again.

Running by the sea sounds fantastic... one day I will get there.

Hoping to see the deer again :)

Keep running too.

Sounds magical! (and I love a bit of JT on my headphones!)

My runners high came on week 9 run 1 - it was a warm evening a few weeks ago, and just great to be out. Everything felt good - my legs, my breathing, my mind - and I felt like I could run forever :-)

Sadly, I haven't had a run that good since.x

Hi, amsjo yes it was not long after I had graduated, we were out at about 7 am, ran along the main road in Costa Teguise then cut through onto the promenade that runs nearly up to Arrecife, the sea breezes were just wonderful . Off again in six weeks. Pat

My first real high was when I just kept on running one Sunday morning, everything just felt right and it was the first time that I just "got it" and realised that I was running because I really love running.

I wasn't doing it for fitness, or doing it because Laura told me to - I wasn't having to prove anything to anyone, and certainly didn't intend to do this, but once I had clocked upto 5k (which is when I usually stop) I just thought, sod it, and kept on going along for another 5k...... what an amazing feeling that was - 10k in one run - that was unheard of for me because I'm not a proper runner.

Then I had another major high on my run last, I had got to 4.3k in 28:59, (my 5k is usually 33/34 mins) so I knew I was already going some & this was already a good run. So when i got to the dead flat & dead straight length of towpath, sod it, I literally sprinted the whole bloody length of it and boy did it feel good (Managed to clock my fastest ever 1k time too)

I'm 40 for god sake, and I'm not supposed to be having this much fun when I am running ......

That sounds fantastic ... I do love that feeling of just running for runnings sake ... especially love running in the rain for some reason ... even in our 40's we can run and enjoy it :)
