Spreading the C25K gospel........

Yesterday a lady out walking her dog's stopped me to ask if I run everyday and would I like a running partner. I explained to her that I only run about 3 times a week and I am a fairly new runner. She told me she so wanted to run and had bought her trainers but every time she tried she gave up! I explained the C25K programme to her telling her that is how I had built up my running to 30+ minutes. She appeared suitable impressed, googled it on her iPhone and said she would give it a shot.

Well between stopping to chat with her, the heat and my dog's numerous bathroom stops it wasn't a great run but still went home on a major high..............me, me, giving running advice, not in this lifetime lol.

Yesterday must have been recruitment day. One of the girls at my badminton class was asking me about running and how I could possibly manage to run for 30 minutes or more. I told her about C25K and this web site which was supported by hundreds of runners new and not so new. She had also said she was walking down at the beach in the morning and had seen our Parkrun, she had spotted me but thought I looked too busy to stay and chat. We had a new record attendance yesterday 181, yippee :) I was very busy ushering the runners through the funnel to the scanning table to get their times and bar codes logged.

It feels so great to be an inspiration for others, doesn't it? I also told my friends (if they were interested or not) about my running and got 4 people in total to start the programme as well. I inspired 2 friends directly and each of them asked one more person to join them (telling them about my progress combined with showing them fotos of an unfit me helped to convince them that if I can do it they can do it as well). I'm so proud of them! Especially of the two doing now Week 5. They are daugther (my friend) and mother and the mother also decided to quit smoking now as she wants to live more healthy. My friend's sister had a baby on Wednesday so I can say I inspired an aunt and (indirectly) a granny to become runners :-)

I'm amazed at how amazed my friends have been and how proud of me they are, and I'm sure they must think 'if she can do it then I definitely can'. So far have got two friends doing couch to 5k, another has downloaded the podcasts and will start as soon as she's bought some running shoes and several others have definitely been interested. It's great to get others out doing it because it's a fantastic programme and makes you feel sooooo good to do it!
