I'm wondering whether i would find running on the grass in the park easier/better than on the paths? has anyone any comments please.

I think it can be easier on joints and feet, but depends on the grass! I've tried running on a rather tussocky grass field and that was horrible! Really hard work on the ankles. But smooth short park grass is nice. Watch out for "Keep off the grass!" signs though - or be ready to run off really fast! :D

Greenlegs - I can't run fast and I know I have to be slow and steady ;-) Our park has an outdoor gym and walking and running on the grass is positively recommended. Thanks for the advice I shall try the grass tomorrow for W5 R2 and let you know!

It's harder work running on the grass but kinder on the joints, as long as you have good shoes & no outstanding joint issues paths should be ok. I read in runners world magazine that grave or a propper running trackl are the ideal surfaces to run on if you have access to them.

Agree with the others, my first 3 weeks was on grass, as a complete novice, with walking shoes as i was worried my ancient frame (50) and BMI of 32 might find it too much. On holiday I had no choice but to run on tarmac and paid for it with a niggling achilles. I have bought proper running shoes following a gait analysis, but play it safe and stick mainly to grass. I managed the 20 minutes last week with few problems, but also doing boot camp (ouch) to try to tone up core and support muscles.

Just watch out for dog poo, and dogs who want to play :), avoiding any boggy or tussocky areas so you don't stress your ankles too much,

Good luck

I run round my own grass tracks, some bits are much easier, the less bumpy bits than the more tussocky bits, Im thinking it must be easier to get a rhythm on the road, I really need to venture out and try it soon.

Just started using a proper running track, just so much nicer than the path or grass.
