Hi all

I was diagnosed with COPD about 3 years ago and have asthma also.

I am based in the UK

I have suffered with depression for years but at Christmas after a lot of loss in my life I had a breakdown. The depression is nothing to do with COPD.

The first Anti biotic I took a few times really effected my depression so I changed This was a big yellow I think type tablet I was then moved to Doxycycline which at first was ok Recently I had another chest infection and the Doxycycline effected my anti depressants that much I nearly ended up back in the crisis house

I am now stuck I get stable on my Anti depressants and once an infection hits I go through 2 weeks of hell Are there other Anti Biotics to try that don't effect your mood as much I will be going to the Drs and doing a sputum test etc but just asking for people's experiences

Thanks all

This sounds dreadful, Coggy. Can you ask the pharmacist? I always find them very knowledgeable and always willing to look things up for me. That will arm you with some info to take to your GP when requesting a change. Good luck.

Yeah that sounds good advice thanks. Just also interested what other people in the uk use for infections regarding antibiotics ? Just concerned I will run out of options and have to use one of the 2 above that don't suit me.

There are the full spectrum in the UK. The usual practice is to send in a sputum sample to the GP as soon as an infection starts so that is can be tested and the appropriate abs given.

No problem ! My anti depressants work great until I use these 2 anti Biotics. I have read a lot on both and people saying they effect mood anxiety so if you have that already it's going to have a deeper effect. There are pages on them. I will need to find a different Anti Biotic that will work of course but does not effect it as much. Doxycycline was not to bad for about a year but now it's just not bearable.

I take Zithromax for infections, I don't know if it will effect anti depressants but you can ask your pharmacy, they can tell which antibiotic will and will not and then you can go to your doctor. Your doctor should know this but I have noticed they never check to see what drugs don't go together they just hand out a script.

8 years after being cleared of lung cancer I found out that I have MAC and was given Azithromycin 500mg and Ethambutol 400mg. I was also given cipro for another less difficult bacteria. I haven’t noticed any specific problems with them yet and I do make sure to take my pro biotic daily. Good luck and God bless. Keep the faith.

David. Oh, I am in the U.S.
