hi all, I’m 36 and have been through the most anxious few weeks. For the past 10 years I’ve always had intermittent blood when I wipe which wasn’t unusual because I have pretty bad piles after having my children. The gp has always been able to spot where the bleeding was coming from and it just became my ‘normal’. About 4 weeks ago I was having pains and I noticed the blood was happening every bowel movement and sometimes it was covering my stool but nothing when I wiped. Fast forward a week I had an urgency to go at about 6am which is very unusual and my stool was laced with maroon blood clots. I went straight to my gp and was referred on the 2 week pathway. My health anxiety went through the roof. I was googling like crazy, floating on all the chat rooms like this and was full of dread. The blood was still happening daily and I dreaded going to the toilet. My colonoscopy was today and it turned out I now have grade 4 piles and need surgery. Everything else was clear. I’m hoping someone can find some peace in this, I know we don’t all get the same result but we all go through the same worries and anxieties and reading positive stories really helped me when I was at my most anxious. I hope this can help someone out there.

hi this is a good result for you all the best in your surgery, I thought mine was piles a few months back! had a colonoscopy it was a polyp! had 4 removed one was cancer! I was quickly seen had scans MRI the lot , I had surgery within 3 weeks, that was 6 weeks ago now , and all histology came back clear I feel so lucky, you take care.

Hi Lynnnan,

That is a positive story. I'm glad that it is nothing sinister so to speak. And yes, good luck with your upcoming surgery .

You are correct in that what you went through is what a lot of people go through as well. It's the unknown that makes our minds race. It's the unknown that drives anxiety. You always have to be careful with Doctor Google. But that's what most people do as well. There was actually a point in my cancer fight that my doctors told me to stop googling things😂. And they were right.

thanks for sharing this with. It’s a real worry when things like this happen. It then becomes a double worry when waiting for doctors apps, scans etc. I’ve been going out of mind waiting for my abdominal scan.

I did have two incidents of red blood on paper in January. Another incident in March. Went to see doctor who examined me. Told me I had old piles and badly scratched up skin with a minor tear in it.

I requested a qFIT anyway as was left, still am, to worry about my stomach. After treatment on angel area for two weeks, I did the test. Came back with a >7 . Considered within the normal range for NHS England.

Just eating for ultrasound now 😴

Glad you’ve got a great outcome, except for the surgery and so. At least you’ll able get it all sorted out.
