Any advice/knowledge appreciated

I have a colonoscopy Friday and I’m so anxious. Doctors think I have piles but I refused a rectum exam because I think it could be more than that and don’t want to get fobbed off.

Has anyone experienced this? My bowel habitats aren’t normal, I have diarreah every other week, thin stools, constipation etc. Every day I go to the toilet and pass this mucus…sometimes it’s stringy sometimes it’s lose and blob like. There is always blood though. Has anyone experienced anything like the pictures?

I’m so nervous about the colonoscopy but more embarrassed than anything.

Thanks for any advice

Hey Jean92,

So I am not a doctor but I am a stage 4 colon cancer survivor as well as also having Crohn's disease. I did have either really skinny stool, diarrhea or constipation before I was diagnosed with cancer, however I never had blood in my stool 10 years after my battle with stage 4 colon cancer, I did have mucus in my stool which led to a diagnosis of Crohns Disease.

You absolutely have somethung serious going on with your colon, so I am very happy that you followed your instincts and did not allow a digital rectal exam to have the dooctor blow off your symptoms! You can literally be dealng with anything from an IBS. IBD, or cololrectal cancer.

The best thing you can do is get a colonoscopy!! If you need to tips to get through thst just ket me know and keep me posted!!

Hi Vanessa thanks for your reply. I’m just nervous for the colonoscopy. I find the procedure really daunting. I will keep you updated with any results hopefully it’s nothing too sinister.

It’s good your getting a colonoscopy. I wouldn’t want to frighten you but I had those same symptoms and I had bowel cancer stage 1. The doctor didn’t want to give me a colonoscopy until I told him that bowel cancer runs in my family. I had a colonoscopy that week and two weeks later I was on the operating table. But it also can be something else other than cancer. The good thing is it can be cured with an operation and chemo. Good luck and god bless

I’m not too worried would rather know what it is so it can be treated etc. My appointment has been pushed back to Saturday now so hopefully I’ll get some answers. Thank you for your response x

Hi, ((Piles)) do not come with these symptoms, and please do not be embarrassed about your condition rather be strong and be determined that your doctors put their certificates to good use. Blood + mucus in stool are not signs of piles especially if you have an continuous urge to go the toilet to empty your bowel and you can not or you can only with blood. Colon scopey is a very easy surgical procedure it will take 20 to 25 minutes only and can literally safe your life as well as giving you some kind of relief and peace of mind. Tell your doctor to take his time doing the Retreat of the scopey so he does not miss anything. Best of luck.

Thank you. I’m just so nervous, I’ve opted for sedation during the procedure so hopefully I don’t experience too much discomfort

Not true you can have blood and mucus with hemorrhoids. I did.

I have experienced stool similar to the stool that is in the picture you posted. Unfortunately, I still don't have a diagnosis nearly 2 years since my symptoms started. I did recently have a flexible sigmoidoscopy performed on me and all it showed was that I had some hemorrhoids. It was frustrating to say the least. I also have some larger uterine fibroids that seem to be causing me issues. Plus, even though I've never been officially diagnosed with it, I suspect I've been suffering from IBS since I was around 13 years old. Anyway, please do let me know how your colonoscopy goes. I'm especially interested in whatever results you get given how similar the stool in the picture is to the stool I have passed at times over the last 2 years.

I have had hemorroids in the past so I’m fully aware that there still come still be some there. But I also think there’s more too it than that just because of the constipation, mucus and blood- but I’m not a doctor so could still be very wronf! I’ll update on here once I’ve had my colonoscopy

I'm in exactly similar position and 4 years later (multiple colonoscopies and endoscopy) and besides polyps found each time and removed, nothing was found that would justify blood almost daily and all what you experience... Good news to some degree but frustrating as well. Please don't worry about colonoscopy.

This is the latest, surely this can’t just be hemmoroids or am I just wishfully thinking. I have to isolate before my colonoscopy so think I’m just going stir crazy in the house with nothing to do

So you have been for your colonoscopy on Friday and any results yet??

Just try to relax. I'm sure everything will be alright. And even if it's not just hemorrhoids, it, hopefully, won't be anything too sinister. As I wrote, I've experienced very similar symptoms over the last few years and it just seems as if uterine fibroids and maybe endometriosis are the cause of them. Sure, having uterine fibroids and possibly endometriosis isn't ideal. But, it sure beats the worst case scenario.

Colonoscopy showed inflammation and possible IBD I’m still waiting on biopsy results (they took 20). I’m assuming because I’ve been waiting so long for results that it’s nothing too sinister. I didn’t want to post till I had results but I understand that people are curious and would want to compare their symptoms with my own.
