positive fit test

I am 43 have had epigastric pains for 10 weeks had various acid medication with no effect some made me worse .

I’ve always had anxiety around my bowels which then ends up in them being looser

I’ve never passed any blood, had recent blood tests all normal no anaemia , still samples for h pylori negative , calprotectin negative . Still have the epigastric pain so went to see Gp she suggested fit test to tick the last box . It came back positive 23 I’m now on a two week wait going out of my mind … convincing myself I have bowel cancer pains worse now .Bowels movements are once a day in a morning sometimes twice relatively formed but sometimes undigested food .

Thank you for posting in Colon Cancer Connected. I hate to hear you have all this going on but I'm glad to see you are all over it in getting some answers about it.

The positive FIT means there's blood in your stool and that's definitely a symptom to find the cause. There can be many reasons behind what you're experiencing that would not be the sinister cancer. You are on the 2 week wait for what I assume is the colonoscopy. That is absolutely the best way to get things sorted out and give you some direction to take.

You've had some good negative tests but still need answers to your symptoms. Is the epigastric pain appearing at any particular time of day? Like after a meal? Seems like are a lot of different tests for your pain. The colonoscopy would go a long way as far as you getting the information you need.

I am a stage 4 colon cancer survivor and I didn't have blood in my stool as a sign of a polyp growing in my colon. I had some abdominal pain and stool changes but by the time I got it checked out I was stage 4. I am glad to see you are all over this and the tests done.

I would just focus on getting your answers. Please don't go out of your mind about it. There can be so many reasons for what you are seeing. You are doing all you can do. You're all over this.🧡👍🤟

Hi Sarahlou, My FIT test was 49. I had the colonoscopy and a CT scan because of pain felt at times. Fortunately I had diverticulosis and haemorrhoids. So not everything is cancer. Try not to worry. If you are in the UK then every positive FIT test is put on a 2 week pathway. The main thing is you are getting things done. Have you had an endoscopy? Hope you get the colonoscopy soon to put your mind at rest.

Hi I am in the uk yes no I haven’t had a gastroscope .. still awaiting my colonoscopy referral I swear the waiting makes you get symptoms or heightens them however could be my anxiety too .Glad yours was ok

I suffer anxiety too. Have done since my 30s. It makes symptoms worse I am sure of it. I know it is easy to say don’t worry. I might also say I have been really ill with gastric problems in the past. To the extreme of not being able to get food down. Every test under the sun, I had to have sedatives which calmed me down , all due to extreme anxiety. So I know how you are feeling. It’s good your GP has sent you for tests. Some are not . Best wishes.

Oh no. I think being a nurse you know too much. You know that having that colonoscopy will let you know the problem, if any. If like at my hospital they give you a read out of what was done and what the conclusion is. So you know straight away. I hope it comes soon. I had to chase mine up as the admin were not on the ball. Got there in the end. Good luck.
