Hi Patcon,

Thanks for posting with us. First, a positive FIT can be a result of many different things. You just need to narrow things down and go from there.

Is your family history hereditary? I have Lynch Syndrome which means I need close screening. I get an annual colonoscopy and CT scan along with bloodwork. I also get an endoscopy every 3 years.

Your question is a good one on the safety of getting a colonoscopy at 77. I do hear it is common and the absolute best way to get answers to symptoms even at an advanced age. I would think it would be safe as it is the gold standard in determining what's going on in the GI tract. Are there any other symptoms that need to be addressed? Abdominal pain? Stool changes? etc.

We do wish you the best. Please speak with your gastro doc about any concerns you may have.

Thank you,

Tom
