Constipation or More?!

Back in early Sept I had constipation with odd mucus and blood for two days. I had take Amatripllin day before and stopped 3 days later. Ever since I have had 15/18 days with no constipation then hits me intermittently. Since I have had two really really tiny bits of blood in clear mucus (put toilet paper prior to stool) it's normally more after a few days of constipation. Have done 4 FIT tests, 4 Calprotectin and Lactoferrin all normal. Doctor examined me did bloods all normal has referred me although may be a long whole before I'm seen. I'm 37 not overweight don't smoke or drink, diet could be better. I do take 2 blend drinks a day off fruit and veg but do drink 6/10 cups of tea a day. I know I'm at lower risk due to age but still worry about the deaded C word. Blood last two times is so so tiny almost as thing as a hair. Wondering if constipation was caused by cancer surely would be constant more blood etc? Have put on 5 pounds no weight loss at all. Anyone had anything similar?

Hi Daveo1410 ,

Thanks for posting and sorry to read about what you are going through - definitely understand how this can cause a lot of anxiety.

That is great that you will be able to be seen - but disappointing that the appointment date isn't set. Please continue to follow up to try to get that appointment.

One possible reason for blood can be due to constipation - the pressure of constipation can cause tears or also irritate hemorrhoids - there are many reasons why there could be blood. Anytime someone has blood in the stool we recommend they get it checked out by a specialist. But try not to let the anxiety get to you too much - our GI systems are heavily impacted by anxiety and it can truly cause additional symptoms and pain. (Easier said than done, I know, to not let anxiety get to you).

When you see the specialist, it is a good idea to bring a notepad and paper to take notes, also, bring a list of medications, and also track your bowel habits, food, etc. as you have been doing.

Hang in there,

~Nicole @ GCCA

Thanks Nicole. I again today had the tiniest speckle of blood after or before stool in the mucus that followed, so small it’s almost unidentifiable. With the FIT and Calpro and Laco tests all being negative I do believe it’s internal haemorrhoids as no pain and blood always on discharge and so small quants. Only ever get it a day or two after a few days of straining.
