I am 25 years old and since yesterday I have been loose bowel movements, I think I saw a bit of blood in my stool and it is really scaring me, I do suffer with anxiety and it is just worrying me.
do you think I am overreacting, what should I do?
just scared that it could be colon or bowel cancer
Hi cam ..dont worry to much yet . I tiny bit of blood could be anything from piles to colitis which is what I have recently been diagnosed with . I had lots of blood , mucus , tummy pain and diarrhea. I thought like you and it was ulcerative colitis. IBD .
Hi Nina, thanks for this, it just really worries me, even the slightest stomach cramp freaks me out, I've just been again and couldn't see any blood in my stool but these stomach cramps kill, they come and go.
I will give it a bit more longer and if it continues I will make an appointment with the doctor
Yes just keep an eye on it . U may just have developed IBS as they are classic symptoms. Blood only becomes an issue if u see it in most bowel movements or is quite alot . I was havin blood every day from march untill June . So was definitely an issue
I personally would stick with some paracetamol. It's so hard to get a doc app at the minute. So just note down. Time of day cramps or is it happening after foods . If so what foods . Have u had Any diarrhoea today?
Funny you say that. I've had to cut out dairy for a while with my bowel illness and that can be a colon irritant for some .. maybe just cut down on it for a few days to see if it makes a difference. It has to my issue . Just keep an eye mainly on the blood . Bright red is generally something not too worrying like piles, a fissure or colitis but dark red or black is higher up and can be a little more concerning.
I ended up having an emergency sigmoidoscopy, as I was so poorly I had to gi to A&e so as I hadn't had all the prep before a colonoscopy I could only have that, which goes 20cm into colon. I was pretty much told it was ulcerative colitis when then and there. Biopsies came back only this week to confirm
It is a fact that bowel cancer can happen at ANY age, not just if your older. I say this not to worry the original poster, but because it is a fact. Saying "you are so young so don't worry about bowel cancer" is a dangerous, and erroneous statement.
Hi nina , i need your help please. Recently after passing loose stool , i passed mucus , and with mucus there was blood too. I am passing mucus for 3 days but I haven’t seen any blood after that. My poo coloured changed a bit , dark , and i am going to toilet 3 times in the morning. Sometimes only to pass mucus. I am 31 , no bowel cancer history. I am very stressed, I cannot eat or sleep because of thinking of this all the time . Please help me
Hi there .try nit to stress . Easier said than done .. for your age its unlikely to be cancer or anything. Alongside the symptoms you said would probably be weight loss, tummy pain , change in bowels etc. My symptoms were mucus , blood on and off .then it got to the point where I would pass wet wind. After a stressful time my symptoms stepped up by only passing blood and then diarrhoea up to 10 times. I eventually got referred urgently as it was my heart rate that was so high because I was so dehydrated. I had a camera and diagnosed with ulcerative colitis..read up on it . I am 37.
Hi Nina, you might not reply to this but I'm 14 and about almost 4 weeks ago I've been having poop problems where my poop is like a hummus sort of color (no blood) and I've been having to poop everyday since then I've been having dehydration and weight loss and I think it was because of how much I've been pooping about 2 weeks later I told my father and told me to drink more water and eat fiber. After a week of drinking water my poop turned brown and thought I was good. But then it came back again and I've been really stressed out.
Hi John..please dont stress.your symptoms are very mild at the moment . The colour of your stool doesmt indicate anything too bad ..blood and very dark stools are a concern in my eyes..sometimes things you eat has a tell tale on your stool colour.. is the weight loss drastic ? Sometimes stress or worry can give us some weight loss. Any pains ?
Hi Camsta112, Sorry to hear about your issues. There are many potential causes for blood in the stool, and in order to rule out colorectal cancer, you'll need to see a specialist. Be sure to keep notes on the frequency and anything else of note that could be helpful information for your doctor to hear. Thanks for posting and please keep us updated. Do your best not to be too anxious, but do follow up for an appointment with a specialist!
Hi Mondlee6248 - sometimes people refer to IBS as a 'diagnosis of exclusion' , meaning that the dr. has ruled out everything else it could be... so they say "you've got IBS." That is a myth - there are guidelines and tests that need to be performed to determine if you in fact do have IBS.
