Colonoscopy
Hello Messy2020,
Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the cancerous polyp but am so glad that you got the colonoscopy - you may have saved your life with that procedure!
Were you experienciing any symptoms that led you to get a colonoscopy or did you get one because you are 45?
How often will you be getting screened in the future for colorectal cancer? Usually if a cancerous polyp is detected you'll be screened more often than the guideline of every 10 years.
Did your specialist discuss any other testing results? While hereditary colorectal cancer only accounts for a small percentage (about 5%) it is important to share your results with your family members.
Thanks again for sharing and hope to hear from you soon.

Every 5 years I will have a colonoscopy. I have a brother that's 42 and a sister that is 47 they also schedule their colonoscopy. My mother passed away of stomach cancer at the age of 35 and my dad have no colon issues. I was surprised that I had an issue. The only Issue I was having was inconsistent poop. A lot of mushy stool with some blood because of hemorrhoids. I really had to push my doctor to test me because they wanted the way until I was 50 but I stayed on them to do it and I told them that I needed to have it done. I had my doctor test me for prostate cancer and blood test and everything els. I just wanted to make sure that I was alright and my persistence paid off.
Wow, I hope that your doctor will not make other patients push so hard to get a colonoscopy after seeing you. It is really great that you were able to get screened and congratulations on being such an awesome health advocate for yourself! I hope your story will inspire other people to get a second opinion or get checked out.
