gardasil availability

hi, Golfforlife...I just saw your 1 yr old post & wanted to relay my experience. I am 75 with CLL & ITP. My maternal grandmother died in her 50s of cervical cancer. When I was the right age. gardasil was not around. Now I know about it & want the immunization. My onc/ hemat said ok & so does my GP, but neither can get it for me, nor can my pharmacist...Because I am over 45 which is the outside limit, despite my history. Frustrating and a bit scary.

These blanket rules, really get to me. I don't care about the specific medicine these rules pop up in arbitrary places. I try to find out, "Is it clinical or cost"? If your doctors are a go, but it's unattainable, it makes me think cost. "What is the price out of pocket?", I ask them.

If they claim it is to protect me, give me hard facts and data, "Is there a waiver?" I ask them. It's silly that considering one has kicked around this planet for 75 years they cannot make a decision for their self if they have informed consent.

I look at what's happening with RSV vaccines, they give it to babies, pregnant mothers, and they give it to 75 +, they gave it to me last year. But now, they say we haven't studied it enough to still allow that (thankfully it is good for two years). They're talking through their hat. More than likely, I guess, they don't have enough. But instead of stating there is a limited supply we are prioritizing these X groups this year they hide it behind medical uncertainty. Then they are nonplussed as to why folks question their credibility.

It's colonialism all over again, different paradigm, same game.

There is a reply button under the post you read. You can use that instead of writing a new post which the person may not even see.

Or rather than resurrect a zombie thread, place an @ before the profile name in the post. Then they get a notification that they have been referred to.

Was it meant to be  Golf4life ?

The profile name has to be spelt correctly when referring to them. It makes suggestions as you enter more of the name.

[Edit]

It's also worth checking the profile to see if the user is still active.

I am also a 75 year female in the US. My interest in the HPV vaccine was for squamous cell skin cancer. Approved by my PCP and CLL oncologist, my dermatologist wrote a script for Gardasil which my pharmacist submitted to my Medicare part D policy. It was fully covered. I received the 3 injections at the pharmacy. No problem. Good luck giving it a try.
