I just wanted to thank so many of you who have spoken of your side effects with the second Shingrix, yet being worth it. It was when I recently read here that being only half vaccinated was still being open to Shingles that spurred me into getting the second one today, after 2 1/2 years.
After seeing a photo online of someone with Shingles recently, it was even more inspiring to go for it. We need all the protection we can get. Thank you!! 😊

I will definitely do so, but right now I've been swinging my arm around every which way, and drinking water. I told the pharmacist I could barely raise the arm on round one to play the piano, so he inserted the needle higher up, bless his heart. Wishing you well for your second one tomorrow!
Somebody once told me to keep my arm active. So I walk back home swinging my arm, clenching fist and singing! Don’t care who looks at me, but it is a quiet area that I walk in. At most have had a sore arm for a day
It was a nurse who first told me about swinging the arm to disperse the injection when I had a flu vaccine, and stretching the shoulder across the chest to reduce inflammation. Having CLL is not fun, but it’s good in that it is not only an education but makes us much more self-aware of our bodies. Keep on singing! 🙂
It's 70 hours since my second Shingrix vaccination and the injection site tenderness, which was less than I have from flu boosters for both Shingrix shots, has mostly faded away. I only felt slightly under the weather for the first two days and more tired for the first 24 hours. No other side effects.
We all have different experiences with these vaccines. I still work out routinely and maintain decent muscle mass on my shoulders and arms(maybe a benefit) as I only had mild discomfort at the shot area and just general malaise for a week. Never missed work. Night sweats returned for a couple days as well. Good luck.
Oh, my! I hope your wife will heal soon, and can't imagine what it feels like. Your timing for getting the second vaccine turned out to be perfect for you!
I had bad reaction to 2nd jab, in bed for 48 hrs, flu like symptom. 2 weeks later atm still painful but is no longer red and inflamed. I still think it's worth having though
I had my second one thursday, swollen inj site and mild flu like aches and headache. All bearable and expected. Rested and took regular analgesia. All good after two days.
Mate had same jab same day only effect sore arm.
I am very glad i have had them both, especially when you hear how painful shingles is.
I have two flu vaccines a year and have had seven covid jabs. Minimal reactions just usual sore arm.
I had my second shingles jab 10 days ago and still feeling the effects, my arm is still painful. I was very poorly the first night fainting and nausea which very slowly improved over the following week. But I am sure it is worth it, better than having shingles and I know many people are fine with it
I had the shingles vaccine and felt no side effects from either injection, other than a slightly sore arm.

Months after my first Shingrex jab while having mild MCBL, I developed full blown CLL, I was told to not get the second since between the CLL and treatment, I did not have enough good B-cells for the vaccinations to be effective. I was put on acyclovir and told in no uncertain terms that the first jab was not to be considered effective, that I would have to start over in the future and get two if I eventually reached a good remission. (Which occurred, first shot done, second coming up in another month.)
Your statement is the first time I've ever heard of considering a second jab years later to be meaningful. Is there any documentation for this? I would want to be sure that you are off the hook for another.
I am sure you will get some protection from your 2nd shot after 2 1/2 years, but the recommendation is to get the 2nd shot 2-6 months after the first. You may want to check with your doctor but I am sure it would be better than not getting the 2nd shot...
I did let the PA know at the appointment 2 months ago how long it's been since the first shot, and though he didn't sound alarmed, he did say to have the second one sooner than later.
I just read on the cdc.gov site that if more than 6 months have elapsed between the first and second Shingrix, that one doesn't need to restart from square one, thank goodness!
Does anyone know if Shingrix vaccine works like covid vaccine in the following way....if one gets both Shingrix shots and, with bad luck, gets shingles...is it a milder case?
I had my second shingrix jab 5 days ago. My arm was aching and tender for 24 hours and was still a little tender after three days, but not too bad at all thankfully.
