Being a CLL patient and on Acalabrutinib is it best to stay away from people who are in contact with chickenpox?? My neighbour's grandchild who is 2 has it and so far i am avoiding contact with them as they look after her occassionally. I know it says it is very unlikely to get chickenpox ia second time but thinking of Shingles too.

If you have had chicken pox before, you won't get it again. You can't also get shingles from chicken pox.
Hello Westie11
I f you have had chicken pox once it makes you a candidate for shingles. I have never had chicken pox and as immune compromised, do want to risk getting chicken pox, as it can be worse for adults. Blessings.
I got my chicken pox antibodies, checked after i had O+I and on Acalabeutinib. They were fine. But as a precaution as 5 and 7 yrs hadn't had chicken pox I got them vaccine FOC at my GP. I also have had the shingles jabs too.
Worth noting that in the UK a chicken pox vaccine is available but may have to be paid for (depends on your GP). However, because I am immune compromised my grandchildren had it for free last summer, on the NHS. So glad they did as chicken pox was in the classrooms recently and they did not get it meaning Christmas worked well for us all.
Thank you. I didn't know you could get vaccine for chickenpox until reading it on this site. We learn something everyday day.
I wish I had known that. My grandchildren all under five had it October/November time and were poorly and miserable.
I am not sure whether my children have told their GPs that I have CLL. Are they likely to be offered or should they ask for other vaccinations for which they are currently not eligible?
The chicken pox vaccine is the only one that I am aware of. The grandchildren's GP didn't know about my CLL until the question of chicken pox vaccine came up. Their Mum was researching it and was alarmed at the cost, £300 each child. I researched too and found they could get it due to my condition - on the NHS. Vaccine or infection though - your grandchildren should now be protected.
