Shingrix side effects

just wondered what people’s experiences are with side effects after Shingrix? I had the first vaccine and was ill the next day with headaches, chills and feeling awful. However after the second vaccine the side effects have been worse, add in : headaches, unable to concentrate, weakness and wave upon wave of nausea. Reminds me of going through FCR! This is day four after the second vaccine and I’ve finally started to improve, but still pressure in my head, wobbly legs and tiredness. ☹️

Sorry to hear of your more extreme side effects Mandy. Apart from the sore arm which I’ve just posted about, I thankfully didn’t experience any other side effects.

Hope you feel better soon,

Newdawn

I got my first shingrix vaccine on the 5th of February- on February 14, I came down with shingles- can’t say I’m happy about it- luckily they caught it early but my nerve pain is still lingering-

Thanks Ros. How long did you feel ill for?

My first night after the jab I was shivering all night couldn’t warm up, pains in my joints no nausea couple of days. My arm was sore for days and red . I’m sorry you are having such a rough time of it . Best wishes

I was very ill after my 2nd dose of Shingrix last May. I had a fever and chills lasting 3 days. My pcp said the 2nd dose can be a doozy and my experience was not abnormal.

So sorry to hear your account! Pleased you may have a turned a corner!

My Shingrix no 1 is in 10 days. Ooh err!

But... Nov 18th 2023 I got shingles, C2 dermatome. Worst thing, most painful thing I've ever experienced. It was a monster. A month no sleep due to pain. Now resolving. Given shingles can strike more than once I'm getting Shingrix.

Your suffering I'd venture to say is well worth it.

So sorry to hear that Jig, I really sympathise. I had shingles 2 yrs ago in my mouth and it affected my teeth too. It didn’t last a month thank goodness. What an awful time you had, so not surprised you’re having the vaccine. Hope you don’t react too much. Best of luck.

sorry to hear you have had these side effects. I had absolutely nothing from either 1st or 2nd. I only noticed my arm was a bit sore at the site of the injection when I bumped it. Obviously that may not be good news for me as I understand a possible reason for my complete lack of symptoms is that I may not have mounted much of a response eg. might not have worked very well.... So just maybe the side effects, bad as they are, might mean it has worked pretty well for you?

Hi. My first jab gave me a rash around my arms and chest. Not painful but the doctor gave me antiviral drugs and we were going on holiday. Apart from that no other problems. Second one was fine. Hope you feel better soon

Sorry to hear about your side effects. I had first vaccination at GP in November with no side effects. Unfortunately here in Ayrshire and Arran they have changed the system and GPs are no longer doing Shingrix vaccines and it is being done centrally. I am told that I am on a list, but I suspect that I’m going to have to do a bit of chasing to get the second vaccination.

it knocked me on my butt for about 24 hours with both shots.

I had the same side effects when I got my first shot a month ago. I was hoping the second shot would be easier on me next month...but you say that's not necessarily going to be the case. Ugh!!

You may be fine. It’s better than shingles. The side effects lasted about a week, but I never need to have one again!

I had side increased side effects after the second vaccine. I had to take the day off the next day. In addition, had a rash and sore arm for a week. Hope your feeling better!🥰

Yessiree those shots kicked me right square in the shorts. You should be over the hump now. I’d do it again to keep from getting shingles from what I’ve seen in person and heard on this forum

sorry to hear that you have been unwell with the vaccination. I am on W&w at the moment for CLL and had no reaction at all from my first shingrix jab but had a reaction with the second the day after I had been given it - headache, feeling shivery and very tired but it only lasted a day. Hope you have made a full recovery now.

Hi, sorry to hear about your reaction. I had shingles when I was 24 years of age. The GP who I went to see laughed at me (very old school). He only saw old people with this! I have not had my vaccination yet but I remember the pain that was pretty bad when I had it. The area still prickles today. Reluctant now to go ahead now I am 65 with twice treated CLL.

Dave.

I think you should Dave. Even though I am still tired and nauseous 6 days later, it isn’t as bad as shingles and not painful.

Hi, I had similar side effects but trust me it is worth it to avoid shingles. I caught them over 2 years ago, I was in hospital for a week and I am still in constant pain despite taking 20 tablets a day (as well as my 5 CLL tablets)

Thank you Mandy, it's not much fun but there are others a lot worse off so I try and count my blessings

My doctor told me she has had a lot of patients report bad side effects from Shingrix, but fortunately I only experienced a slightly sore arm.

Sorry for your bad luck! I had zero side effects with shingrix.

my post about shingles 5 years ago. healthunlocked.com/cllsuppo...

I truly sympathize, Mandy. The consensus 5 years ago seemed to be to just bear the nasty side effects to avoid shingles. Best to you.
