Please suggest a good CLL specialist at Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville. Also, does anyone know Dr David Scott Morgan at Vanderbilt? Is he good and is he a CLL specialist? Thanks in advance

Hi Lovely67,

-

The CLL Society list of CLL experts

cllsociety.org/newly-diagno...

only includes two doctors in Tennessee

Jia Bi, MD, Tennessee Oncology, Nashville

Ian Flinn, MD, Tennessee Oncology, Nashville

-

The ACOR list of CLL experts also shows Dr. Flinn who is well known in the CLL community and also mentions Dr. Wahid Hanna in Knoxville.

sites.google.com/site/acorc...

-

Dr. Sharman's list cll-nhl.com/p/cllnhl-doctor...

only includes Dr. Flinn

-

So I am linking to gardening-girl for any other comments on CLL expertise at Vanderbilt.

Ian Flinn is a very familiar name on this site. I can’t give you any specifics but I’m sure some of his patients who are members here will chime in on his abilities.

Good luck,

Mark

I would choose Tennessee Oncology over a big academic center like Vanderbuilt. I worked at the University of Michigan for 25 years and chose Dr. Flinn over what was offered at the UM. I commute to see Dr. Flinn who is amazing. His staff is kind and his clinic set up for patients and the care of patients.

Lovely67, what a beautiful name! I'm from Tennessee and Dr. Wahid Hanna has been my oncologist throughout my 25 year journey with CLL. He has been an excellent partner, but I wouldn't recommend him to any new patient because I hold my breath in fear that he will retire at any moment. He is well along in years, in fact we are the same age.😉

If and when he does retire I plan to seek care from Ian Flinn, MD, PhD in Nashville. I have had only one conversation with Dr. Flinn and that was back in 1998 when he was working on his PhD at Hopkins. I called him to ask his advice about a joining a clinical trial at the Hutch in Seattle, WA. He certainly has an excellent reputation as a physician very much involved in CLL research.

I don't know anything about David Morgan at Vanderbilt other than having read patient reviews which are excellent. I don't think that he would be considered a CLL expert, but he is currently involved in the EVOLVE CLL/SLL clinical trial NCT04269902:

Testing Early Treatment for Patients With High-Risk Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) or Small Lymphocytic Leukemia (SLL), EVOLVE CLL/SLL Study

clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show...

Randomized, Phase III Study of Early Intervention With Venetoclax and Obinutuzumab Versus Delayed Therapy With Venetoclax and Obinutuzumab in Newly Diagnosed Asymptomatic High-Risk Patients With Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia/Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma (CLL/SLL)

Best wishes and keep us posted on how things proceed for you.

Dr. Ian Flinn is my CLL/SLL Dr. I retired from Vanderbilt as an RN after 23 years. I believe in Vanderbilt, but transferred my care to him, once I recognized the difference in specialists. You won't be disappointed.
