3rd Vax and Acala check up

Hey all, thought I'd finally share some things on here (and I'm not a share kinda guy) since I've been reading everyone else's updates, they are helpful. I got my two Phizers back in April and felt nothing but a brief sore arm and thought great I'm not like all the other suckers who got bad reactions. Well yesterday got my third shot and wow, payback is a b****! I had chills so bad last night, I couldnt get out of bed to pee until I just manned up and went, after putting all my clothes on. I popped a couple tylenols and an Excedrin tension headache pill and am currently drinkin my morning coffee. I haven't felt this sick in about ten years, when I last had a regular flu and the doctor(GP) yelled at me to get a yearly flu shot(he' a buddy) turns out he was right, who knew, science! Jk, of course. I spose I'll take it easy today..

Started Alcala at end of June and my white cells popped from 80k to 120k in first 2 weeks. At one month it dropped to 100 and 2 months, 3 days ago, down to 90, first time in about 2 years my WBC ticked down 2 visits in a row, I know that can change but Im a fan of good news and it's anice change when your Oncologist is actually smiling when they give you results. So It appears this stuff is working(for now), though I do have low platelets, so she is keeping an eye on that among other numbers. I get all the side effects and they are calming down and new ones pop up but I'll take it because when I had the Rituxin combos five years ago it really was rough on me and yet it saved my life. I told her, that 2 times I forgot to take my 7pm dose and she grabs my iphone, does a couple taps and now I get a message every night at 7, Take Pill! Love her, it's the little things that help..

I also, I asked her if I should get Moderna since I had Phizer before, one word answer, no. Should I hold off on Alcala to let vax do it's thing, again no. She's like untill we know more, just get the 3rd Vax. She can talk my ear off on alot subjects of cancer but the vax questions, just go get it (My GP has same thoughts about it as well). Okay then! I do what she tells me, it's been working so far, lol. I know the vax is not perfect for us but I'm going with, if I feel like crap maybe it's actually working better this time. Yeah yeah, I'll still be safe, best I can.

Anyway, thanks for all your posts..

Well, that you are alive after the vaccine is a miracle at your age!

I am assuming you have given us your "feels like" age, or you are a candidate for Ripley's Believe it or Not.

If your symptoms last through today and/or you have a fever of 104 F, do call your Dr. and get checked out for possibilities of something other than the vaccine being cause of you illness.

Do not hesitate to call your Dr.---I would suggest that if you continue to feel chills, but temperature does not go to 104F, call on Friday--don't wait until weekend when you will only have ER recourse.

Best wishes for this being just the reaction to your vaccine and it clearing by tomorrow.

I was under the impression not to have a 3rd of the same as the immune system can get fixated on the carrier

I read the opposite, a partial response to 2 shots showed a bump in antibodies after shot #3. Like, in certain immune compromised people, they needed a bit more to get their system to respond to the same shot. Remember we are still in the early days of determining the optimal dosing.

Not sure what you mean by "immune system can get fixated on the same carrier." If you are referring to someone having an allergic reaction to an excipient, then a different vaccine with different excipients may not provoke as many side effects.

I love the no nonsense style. You should write more often 😁 I hope to get my third shot when I'm your age. Someone will have to dig me up first though.

Thanks L, today all better, I was dyin yesterday with fever and shivers, I just kept poppin Tylenols and drank a ton of water, this morning all normal, too weird. I never had a reaction to any vax, I'm thinkin maybe because of being on the Acalabrutinib.
