Does anyone think W&W patients will be eligible for the booster shot. I am pretty much stable except for high white count. 62,000. I am 71 years old. Unfortunately my oncologist retired and I am in limbo until they find a replacement. I have an appointment with a PA in a few weeks.
Covid Booster Shot: Does anyone think W&W... - CLL Support
Covid Booster Shot
Wendy,
You immune compromised officially upon being given the diagnosis of having CLL.
Even as a person in W&W, your existing B cells have a percentage of them that don’t function and your T cells also struggle.
Jeff
Wendy,
I'm on W&W with SLL and have not yet received treatment. My bloodwork is normal. I did the LLS program to get my antibodies tested and found out I had no detectable antibodies even though I got my shots in Jan and Feb. I just got a booster at CVS Monday.
You need to go ahead and get your booster.

My CLL doc wrote me this last week when I messaged him (I am on W&W, or M&M as I call it - Monitor and Move On:
“Please let the patient know that I would encourage masking in public and isolation when possible. If he had Pfizer or Moderna vaccine he can try a third shot of the same vaccine that he had to see if that would promote antibody production.”
Hi Wendy328,-
As we discussed yesterday,

the hurdle at pharmacies like CVS or Walgreens is very low.

You don't need a prescription from a doctor, and you can schedule an appointment online (or possibly even walk in) they may ask you to fill out a form that has a very broad vague question whether you have a condition that makes you immune compromised, where you say yes.
They will likely also ask you to provide the dates and details of your first two vaccinations.
And with no further discussion, give you the shot.

Hello, Wendy328 & Welcome!
I would recommend having a discussion w/your pharmacist. Our local pharmacist said she would be giving the 3rd vaccine to ANYONE who requested one. Not only did she tell my husband that I should get it ASAP (I'm the one w/CLL), she said that he should get it as well. He's 75 & recently had a silent heart attack (in addition to living in the same household w/me).
Given that there are so many people out there who questionably make the decision NOT to get the vaccine, there should be NO REASON why anyone w/a compromised immune system should delay getting that 3rd shot!
I would also encourage you to talk w/your pharmacist or your primary care physician about getting the Shingles vaccine (Make sure it's from the DEAD Virus!).
One final recommendation: The local pharmacy is encouraging people to get their FLU SHOT EARLY this year. I believe the reasoning is twofold. Flu & Covid symptoms can be similar, giving the impression that one just has the flu, when they actually have Covid! Also, I'm sure there is concern about the possibility of over-extending the capacities of hospitals w/both flu & Covid patients!
Here's hoping that you will soon be discussing your concerns w/your NEW oncologist & that you won't be needing treatment any time soon! Just know that we're all out here rooting you on in this frustrating battle! 🙏🙋
