Hi All, as I have had a Viral Infection for nearly 5 weeks, I had to cancel my 6th booster Vaacine, and now have a later date. I am seeing my Haematologist at an earlier visit than usual, and he will check my bloods and order a Cat Scan.
I am a little anxious that if this Viral Infection does not clear up before the alternative Vaccine date, about my vulnerability. It is over 6 months since my last booster, and I am led to believe that I may have got some protection from it, notwithstanding my CLL.
Am I right in thinking that at the end of the 6 month period, any protection I did get would be gone, and therefore make me even more vulnerable than usual.
Has anyone gone through similar circumstances, or have any knowledge on this subject. Thanks and all the best. Ron

Hi. It is a well known fact we lose some of the immunity we gained from the vaccine over time. However I got a decent level of immunity after my last vaccine in Sep and have had my immunity levels checked before Spring booster and I have retained a decent level after 7mths. So this can vary considerably with each individual. No size fits all so to speak. So things may not be as dark as you think. Hope this helps.
Thanks mbear, your information was reassuring, like many of us, I suspect, I am a little Paranoid about infections and Covid at the moment. I hope you are keeping well, yourself. All the best. Ron
I went for my seventh Covid vaccination less than two weeks after recovering from having Covid. It was at the hospital and their questioning was thorough. They said it was fine to have the vaccination even if you had a viral infection. The only thing that they were bothered about was if you were running a fever. I was fine with the Pfizer this time.
Hi Emily, and thanks for that piece of very interesting info, obviously I will take my Consultant's advice on this when I see him on 22nd May (My 6th Vaccine) is on 25th.
However. it was reassuring to here of your own personal experience.
Being in W&W (like you) n had 6 Covid shots, tested for antibodies before n after the shots (was in the LLS Study) …n 6 months was typical span between shots. Here’s what resulted antibodies wise … for what that’s worth:
Drop in number of spike antibodies (for me) at the 6 month in-between shots, guessing about 30% to 50%? Luckily still had about 17,000 U/ml spike antibodies before booster #5 or #6. That’s a lucky big boat full.
But…” We are all unique”.
Just noting it’s possible (one story here) that Covid vaccines can be long term potent. Been lucky to avoid getting Covid (so far). I am a huge fan of vaccines.
Gonna wait till this November to get shot #7 n will test before n after for antibodies just to see what a one year wait time inbetween shots yields regarding % drop in antibodies. Curious.
Thank you so much for the information re Vaccines Pin57, it was very helpful. I am not in to the deeper complexities of our CLL, perhaps I should be but I find it a little too much for my 'Baby Bear Brain' as Winnie the Poo, so eloquently articulated.
My Haematologist advised me not to check my Antibodies, as he saw little value in it for me. He does however advocate, taking every Covid related Vaccine offered.
So, I am left hoping that there is enough 'Left in the Tank' after 6 months, and that my Viral Infection will no longer be a problem to me taking my 6th Vaccine. My X Ray resulted in my being sent for another CT Scan, before I see my Haem man on the 22nd May.
Fingers crossed till then, I am so lucky to have excellent GP's and Consultant backup, as I am aware that this is not always the case with fellow CLL'rs.
Thank you once again for your interest, that is what I so much like about the CLL and Blood Cancer Community sites, everyone is so helpful and constructive in their Posts.
