Trigger finger & costochondritis from Acalabrutinib?

Hi Everyone

My trigger finger recurred after cortisone jab in February. Recently developed symptoms similar to costochondritis (painful sternum and tight chest muscles) after vaccination and lasted over 2 months.

Called Pharmacist in Biologics and he hadn’t come across such incidents. Wonder if anyone here also experienced such side effects from acalabrutinib?

I had two ER visits in a week due to severe chest pain to the lower left of my sternum with symptoms similar to costochondritis within a couple of months of starting Acalabrutinib. I needed very strong pain meds just to be able to walk. Heart checked out fine. Pain gradually waned over the next month.

I’ve been suffering with this on and off since I fell ill with a bad chest infection in March, which led to my diagnosis in hospital. Dr prescribed me Vitamin D a couple of weeks back and suggested my deficiency might be responsible. It did settle, though not completely.

I restarted Acalabrutinib 10 days ago after a fever spike and it has flared up again in the past few days, especially painful today. I’m breathing OK but feel constricted. I hope it is a temporary side effect and nothing to do with my lungs!

Good to find this post!

Jon,

Have you had a chest xray?

A couple – though not specifically for this. Didn’t show anything.

Oh dear Jonathan, I hope you get over with this soon.

The “chest tightness” resolved by itself before I had heart MRI and cardiology consultation. Hopefully it was transient side effect from acalabrutinib.
